To be fair he did mention the poor east west links that he said was a disgrace and also that Leeds was the biggest City in Europe without a Metro that he said had to improve

I know what you mean generally about Gove but in an era when praising the opposition is taboo listen or read what Andy Burnham said about Gove getting the levelling up role on the Marr show. His speech on the subject was absolutely on the money as well.

It matters not, if wages rise and if it's being outstripped by inflation it effectively becomes a wage reduction. The word on the street is that we are going to see much higher inflation, that's without the pressure from energy price rises. Wages are rising rapidly in the EU and the US too. Add on wage inflation and in a year or so we could be seeing some pretty hefty price increases. The poor and the red wall seats will suffer disproportionately, the better off will be able to ride it. Brexit will only add to the woes. There are a lot of factors that seem to be converging and it doesn't look promising.

Today there are 4 areas of politics..
    1) Right of centre where the majority of people are but with no meaningful representation
    2) Centre where we have quasi socialist and green but put themselves forward as conservatives saying the right things but unable to put in to practise.
    3) Old fashioned labour, woke and broke seeking mostly the votes of scroungers and immigrants
    4) Absolute marxist no hopers.

Funny thing is Steve you won't believe how close that clip from Pie is to a rant I had to my dad after watching Johnsons speech. Although my language was a hell of a lot more fruitier than Angela Raynors. Got to feel for my old fella cos when I go off on one hes the one that gets it.
I think Pie summed up the state of modern politics in this country, more bothered about semantics (or is it pendamtics?) and likes and retweets than actually caring about humanity.

And that’s the problem - no viable alternative.

I'm sure there are viable alternatives. They probably exist on the Govt back benches rather than on the opposition benches. With one or two exceptions, the PM has a habit of surrounding himself with incompetents and sycophants. The last thing he needs is somebody with their own ideas and policies challenging him from within his own Cabinet.

Lots of rhetoric and amusing side comments. Plenty of enthusiasm and playing to the audience both in the Conference and in the country. Very short on specifics and a complete absence of policy. Typical Johnson.

A game winner. The less substance on specifics, the easier it is for the after match interviewees. There's nothing to question when the substance is just absolute waffle. A case in point one of the very few quotes of substance Johnson made was to distance himself from previous leaders but when Dorres was questioned about this she just answered what would have been a completely different question. I thought the speech summed up the Tories to a tee, a speech of no substance but the sycophants lap it up because its for the greater good of the party.
If only Labour would learn how to play the game.

This was the claim of the left and the Brown supporters as they undermined and got rid of Blair claiming they could do better, They have never been in power since, Like Blair you can like or hate Boris but it would be foolish to write him off as foolish, He wins elections and it is an art some do not realise

Johnson is a brilliant campaigner and rabble rouser. But utterly incompetent at planning or implementation.

Despite all you say workers and pensioners have always been better off under a Tory government and as Blair famously told the Labour party conference when elected leader " You cannot let the past determine your future "

Not quite fairer for all but opportunity being more equally spread. He did quite a long part on it today (as did Gove on Monday which was actually excellent) but it will be difficult to actually measure regardless of what they say but the ideal behind it is all about uncorking untapped potential to increase productivity and its not a bad theory.

In principle it could work. But this is Britain where anything North of Watford isn't important. Heck we can't even implement Brexit, how the hell can I trust a party where we have food shortages on shelves. See, I've no allegiance, I just want the fairest system. One day this country will unearth a leader worthy of the name, it sure as hell ain't Johnson.
