Great start to season yesterday with bits to work on but a full week in training now to get them right.

What’s your predictions for this one?

Barnsley look strong but there’s no reason to fear them. Doyle has another week with the squad. Akpan gets another weeks fitness under his belt. McGowan, arguably our best defender, has another weeks training. So we have plenty going for us and 3 points to build on.

It looks as though Barnsley blew Oxford away early in the game so need to be mindful of that.

What will attendance be? Realistically not the announcement made in ground

Will we sign anyone else this week?

Hard to make a predictions so early in the week, with so many things that could change i.e injuries or signings to both teams.

All I will say is I'm looking forward to this one, it should be a cracker. I'd take a draw as things stand, with them keeping their squad together I think they'll probably win the league, so it's going to be a great test for us early doors.

At this stage, having not seen the team play and with 9 new starters yesterday it will take time to form an opinion.
There are so many unknown factors. Barnsley have just been relegated I am not sure of how many of their team they have kept? They demolished Oxford yesterday.
It is a Yorkshire derby so I expect the game to have that high energy element to it.
The weather forecast (which may well change) is for it to be cooler and damp in the morning, so that may have some form of impact.
Attendance. A lot will still be on holiday, so that will dent the number of people in the ground. However I expect Barnsley to bring a good contingent, so probably over 17,000.
As for the score I have not got a clue. It could be a high score game, or one where it is a battling 0-0.

I know it’s early but good to see how people’s moods change over the week.

Could be the toughest home game of the season I think Barnsley have the best squad in the league.
It will be a good game and a big test

    City 3 barnsley 2 att 17109.
A high scoring rip roaring first home game.
Yest we were fantastic on the eye at times but got very very tired (alot easier than shrews did).we all so look weak physicality but thats because we have recruited more technically gifted players than brute brawn.at times over 46 games the more up and at em teams may come out on top against us but the potential is there for all to see.i say well done to everyone behind the scenes at putiing this exciting and untapped team/squad together.
P.s 2 more in before deadline a striker and midfielder i am lead to believe.
    Cheers syb

I don't agree with your opening part. Neither team looked fitter than the other, the conditions dictated that both teams were off the pace at times which is understandable. But we were not the weaker team.

They didn't touch the ball in the last 7-8 minutes so I'm not sure where people are getting that idea from, if we were far more tired we'd have been hanging on for dear life. A couple of ours were totally gone but they were subbed, as a team no way we were more knackered than Shrewsbury, complete myth.

    Fully agree Park.

Barnsley have the best squad in the division at this moment and their forward line up is impressive.

I think we can cause them problems. However, there were times yesterday where the players weren't sure of their positions or pressing when we didn't have the ball. Barnsley will expose that if we don't get to grips with it quickly

A toughie for sure, and as said - possibly one of the hardest games of the season, so I'm happy to get this one out of the way, early doors.
Two teams fully committed to an attack policy, so don't be surprised if it's 3 - 3, or even more, depending if City are injury free leading up to the game.
Although cooler, the weather should be good, and even though in the holiday period I would still anticipate 17k.

Barnsley haven't brought many in, simply because they've kept most of their squad. Their fans, are generally a cautious lot, but feel their relagation was due to the disastrous replacement for Heckingbottom, rather than, say like Burton, a weak squad

i.e. it's a squad that with a good manager would have been expected to be at the lower to mid table end of The Championship

Unfortunately, like last season anyone ending against the two teams who have spent most of their recent lives in the top two Divisions, will have done well

Big test for us. But we can do it

Barnsley have two quality strikers. It would be good if we can get an extra striker in by the weekend as back up.I think we have to be on our game but positive as they don't need any encouragement to attack as they will score goals. They are my tip for promotion, along with us I hope.

Lets put a cheeky bid in for both of them, if it comes off, that should limit Barnsley's chances of scoring;)

Massive test, if anyone finishes above them and Sunderland then they'll be going up automatically. Although Barnsley haven't brought in many they've kept a strong front 3 of Thiam, Bradshaw and Moore as well as Brad Potts so they've got players who've played at this level as well.

If we give Barnsley the chances we gave Shrewsbury then they'll punish us, expect they'll be right up for it and looks like their new manager have got them playing good football and pressing high up the pitch so if we can look to get the ball up the pitch quickly when they are pressing it could create a lot of space for Payne to exploit.

So @Fordy117@Fordy117 talked a few weeks back about getting “Rahic out of the club NOW!” and I think some sort of protest was mentioned?

If so, I guess the first home game of the season is a perfect time to do such a protest.

So I’m just wondering what the plans are for a protest?

Or is Fordy (and the others; you know who you are) just simply full of crap?

(PS I’d probably go to watch the protest to have a good laugh at them).

Having thought about the match, then if they score first, and in particular before half time, I think we will find it difficult.

The need to start with ‘controlled’ high tempo, may well help. If we can score first, then I sense we may get something out of the match as VP could become a supercharged atmosphere.
