Just finished watching the game. We were poor first, better the second without been anything special. Result was fair on both teams and given Stevenage’s form I guess it’s an ok result for us in that it also wasn’t a defeat.

Hate to say their goal was another mark against O’Donnell IMO. It’s pretty much scored within the 6 yard box, I don’t know how anyone can defend the keeper not either dealing with it himself or organising his defence to do so. If striker continues to miss 1:1 chances it’s often resulted in him been dropped. OD keeps making these errors which are costing us and I just don’t feel the defence feel as comfortable with him as Hornby.

 

Great post Dennis, we have a good League 2 squad (no better than that) but the fact we are talking about the playoffs is something NONE of us could have predicted back in November - there is still a lot of work to do if we are in Div 2 next season and that in itself highlights the size of the job there would be if we did happen to sneak up to Div 1

 

A few positives for me from yesterday.

Firstly, we started poorly but managed to get back into the game and were arguably stronger in the latter part of the match.

Second, substitutions didn't disrupt us, but actually led to us putting more pressure on the Stevenage defence. Vernam caused problems.

It was a good point against an in-form team and still leaves us with a possibility of a play-off place. I'm happy with that. I'm already looking forward to the Grimsby match.

 

It really frustrates me when AOC, Wood and Canavan take the pace out of the game by looking to either pass backwards or sideways with no apparent intention to take the team up the pitch. There was one occasion yesterday when we had the chance to break and outnumber Stevenage, the ball ended up back with O’Donnell to hit a long punt upfield.

After the FGR game I was hopeful the high press and tempo would be a ploy we might become accustomed to seeing, but for the first half yesterday we retreated backward and went back to walking football again. We desperately need a Cullen type defensive midfielder next season. Take the ball from the back and carry it forward.

 

And that is exactly how we should be approaching the game too. There are no outstanding teams in this league and anyone can beat anyone on the day, as long as they have belief, desire and confidence. I firmly believe the outcome of Monday's game will come down to who wants it more, and so it will probably be a draw.

 

We had gone six matches without a win and you couldn’t see where the next point was coming from. The turn around has been excellent whether we get there or not

 

Back on topic. A win tomorrow really makes it game on. Draw not a disaster. Interested to see if we can gather further momentum again. Team that started against FGR did really well - I don't expect many changes.

 

As long as hes scoring I couldn't care less if he does handstands in the changing room.

 

Rowe is probably the most natural finisher we have had in a very long time but he is a luxury in the system we play and I think he will continue to be used as an impact sub

 

It would help if we stopped going backwards every time we have a chance to break

1 - 1 not the worst result now to do the business at home against Grimsby.

 

A bit of perspective needed here folks!
It’s a point away at the leagues form team, it’s a step nearer the play offs, I don’t care who won and who didn’t, in fact apart from the Newport match results went our way, 8 matches left were on 55 points, I recon 75 points guarantees a play off berth (Parkys team got 7th on 69 Pts) so 24 points to play for 20 maximum needed, probably get in on 73.
so 6 wins 2 draws needed!!

Absolutely spot on . We can get there by fair means or foul. We will or we won’t. One thing for certain , I won’t lose sleep over it. Bit long in the tooth for that caper Dave.

Won't disagree with you about our slow, laborious passing.

We suddenly have too many forward options and zero midfield players who are competent passers. We often forget Watt is only a young lad and still learning.

 

You’d moan if we won every game 4-1. You we’re even moaning on Friday after beating Forest Green. Do you really think we should win every game? Stevenage have lost once in 2021, they are in fantastic form but we looked more like winning the game. You just pounce on the negative,want everyone sacking from Mason to Sparks.

 

I agree Hornby lost his place unjustifiably now he should reclaim it.

 

Absolutely nothing, but anything’s possible, so until it’s mathematically impossible I’ll keep believing!
Thing is I watched the Parky history makers DVD before the match today, that team squeaked into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth & I can honestly say bar Paudie & Canavan none of our current 11 would get near the match day squad. BUT to me being a fan is about believing, no matter how long a shot it might be, that your team will defy the odds, will go on that run, will get to the League Cup final, will beat Chelsea Away. If we don’t believe then what’s the point....
So we take the point, dust ourselves down and get ready for the mighty Codheads.
