Look at Fordy's comments for the last season and this. Yes he is abrasive but we are really poor and mostly is comments have been spot on. He would say it as it is.

And look where we're a mid table div 2 side with an owner who doesn't give a ****!

 

The really annoying thing is that Akpan does have ability. He's played in the Championship. He bossed our away game at Burton in L1. He shows occasional flashes of his capabilities in between long periods of doing nothing or losing tackles to opponents half his size.
I can only assume he must look good in training. Otherwise there's no logical reason why a succession of managers keep picking him when he has so little positive impact in competitive games.

 

Yeah the McCartan (I think) foul was was a no-brainer, though it looked to start outside the box to me. But by that stage the ref only had his mind on the half-time bung he must have accepted.

 

Stephen Warnock strongly recommended him to us and must have seen something we’ve yet to see. Or maybe they share the same agent. There are lots of players who can look good at times but drift out of the game because they can’t sustain it. Interesting to see where he goes next.

 

It’s almost getting to the stage now where every game is becoming a must win if we are to get into playoffs. Certainly, we need to win our next away match and get rid of what is becoming a phobia. On a different note why is it that all the sides we play seem bigger and stronger than us. Only O’Donnell and Everton are the right size for this super heavyweight division. Two other big lads, Guthrie and Akpan, don’t look as though they punch their weight. Our other centre backs and centre forwards are about six foot, not small but not likely to outjump lads three inches taller.

 

And if Fordy blames everybody who at the club is above blame, from top down. We’re in a league where some teams are lucky to get three thousand crowds. And look at some of the small town teams in the divisions above. Gross mismanagement over a long period has got us to this stage.

Is this really a heavyweight division? The sides playing well at the top of the table I wouldn't say they are a team of giants. Crewe Plymouth Swindon and Exeter weren't a team full of giants. Such a myth that you need a side of brutes to compete at this level. The better footballing sides are rising to the top. Don't get the obsession that you need to kick your way out of this division? There will be some games where are a more physical approach will be useful but it's not a necessity to succeed in this division.

 

Point. But we could have done with more height playing into a gale in last match. Most teams I’ve seen recently have looked bigger than us.

You could say further that ironically our greatest success coincided with our greatest mismanagement. The debts that Richmond left behind would suggest that.
