I did say he did well in his promotion season he had time to get in the players to achieve what he wanted. Once he was up and decidedere to leave for personal reasons but the team were really struggling. Moved to Salford with a big budget and didn’t last long

 

Swindon are a club in crisis park - his best player (Doyle) left for Bolton and owner Lee Power has been in bother again since.

I wouldn’t read anything into the fact Swindon struggled this year - he wasn’t properly backed. he had a moderate budget at Swindon.

Salford could pick anyone for that job and the fact they went for him speaks volumes. scholesy and G Nev know he’s a proper football man..

Talking of Swindon, went up as champs and came straight back down and Northampton are trying their best to do the same.
That is two out of the four who got promoted last time.
Crewe and Plymouth both in the bottom half of L1.
Looking a tough division to stay in let alone making it out of the Khazi.

Sure, Vernam and Crankshaw have blown hot and cold. Burrell was only ever going to be an injury stopgap. Rowe? Who knows what rabbit hole that enigma continues to go down. But Canavan and Cook were two class signings.

Two out of nine isn't a particularly good success rate though, is it? And the Rowe signing is bizarre if we knew, as we surely must have, that he couldn't play in the system we intended to use. So we either knew that and signed him anyway, which doesn't reflect well on Turnbull or we didn't know, which also reflects badly on him. And of the nine we've hardly seen anything of four of them. I'd say that doesn't suggest we have grounds for trusting him.

 

If you look at any Lg 2 signings from any other club, pick up a couple of gems you're doing well. I get your point, but we're dealing in the bargain basement here. The standard at this level is poor. The reason players aren't at a higher level is because of their inconsistency. A la Crankshaw and Vernam. When you can get hold of a couple of players who do show some consistency - Canavan and Cook - you're doing well.

And re Rowe, I share your thoughts. I think this was a move that McCall was keen on, before M&S and Turnbull were in place. He got signed. I don't really understand why. Internal politics? I don't know. But it's clearly turned out to be a total zinger.

 

Fair enough mate, not having a go at you. Just think we need to see a bit more of Mr Turnbull's work before we can say we trust his judgement.

 

The signings in the summer need to be hell of a lot better than some who were given contracts in January

 

No fall outs with you, mate. The proof of the pudding will be this summer. And by hell, it needs to be the most productive transfer window we've had in bloody years.
