I think this is the million dollar question. Who do we want, what style do we want, proven, unproven, young, old, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2, attack minded , defensive minded counter attacking, on the floor, hoof ?

I can’t think of one manager because there’s something nagging away at me that says no matter who we bring in, we’ll struggle unfortunately. Maybe it’s the way this season is petering out but I’m struggling to think of any to look forward to next season.

This is a very awkward situation having seen some of the performances since we achieved our safety from relegation.
Somebody mentioned the likes of Paul Jewell tearing into the players for not doing their jobs and their lack of tempo. I just can't imagine T&S doing that, they don't have the experience. However they may be very good coaches. I think either we bring in a manager like Jewell and keep T&S on as first team coaches or Ryan Sparks says sorry Mark and Connor, thanks for keeping us up but this isn't working, you can go back to the jobs you were doing very well with the young players you were developing.
After some of the slow starts we have made I actually found myself imagining Paul Jewell's half time teamtalks and smiling to myself.

I had this very conversation with Bronco, Trueman admitted today he wasn't happy and alluded to the fact he felt the players had let the team down but how does he bollock them? And would they listen to him if he did? He's obviously a talented coach but ripping into experienced first teamers is a different ballgame.

    Is it?

There's not a single player in the entire squad we couldn't easily replace so I'm thinking to retain two players might actually be generous.

It's a bit drastic, we won't replace the entire squad with entirely good signings that all mesh.

I'd keep a fair few, but I'd look to improve most positions in the starting XI.

We've lacked depth more than quality at times, but we've defo lacked quality as well.

Another ingredient is 'effort' the other teams might not do much better than us when they have the ball but by hell they do 'want' it more....

I agree it's probably not wise to replace the entire squad but if we could, I'm just suggesting that there wouldn't be many tears for anyone that had left. Such is the feeling towards this current bunch of players.

What baffles me is that all our recent managers have made a deal of only bringing in players that fit and have the right attitude. T&S being the latest .So why do players under perform and look disinterested in playing for the shirt? Is Turnbull on the same wavelength as T&S? My point is that we can all question, but where does the blame lie?..it seems a recurring theme with City. We appear weak on recruitment on the one hand and poor on coaching skills on the other.I really do think it's a risk to continue with our present set up as there is no guarantee we will (1) Bring in the right blend and quality and (2) Get the best out of them. I hope Ryan has the ability, with Stephan's backing, to achieve and identify what is needed to re-establish a platform for recovery.

He played good football at a troubled club (Oldham) and really impressed when he took a bang average Swindon out of this division - winning the league. He got the best out of Eoin Doyle there and did a superb job given all wasn’t rosy behind the scenes there either.

He went to Salford earlier this year and although he has left it wasn't due to failure. Neville and the board wanted route one football to get out of the division, he disagreed, stuck to his principles and walked.

I think at City we’ve had enough safety first merchants. I loved Parky but not Bowyer. T and S are grating on me now given our capitulation when the top seven was at our mercy.

Wellens is from the old Man Utd set up isn’t he and has had a good schooling.

I think he’d play football that excites the fans and would get results here.

I think he’s an outstanding choice now available and would move heaven and earth to get him.

It would certainly boost ST sales having a proven promotion winner in the dugout.

Sorry but that is an embellishment. He took Oldham down he had the best budget in league two and left Salford well down the league. He did well to promote Swindon but they were on their way down again when he left. As for good football he used the exact same formation T&S used at Swindon

Selective as usual. Oldham were an absolute basket case when Wellens took over, Swindon were going nowhere till he took over. The reason he left Swindon in a higher division than when he started was becuase he wanted to be near his long time home area of Manchester and because he felt Swindon weren't ambitious enough. You could say he failed to some extent at Salford but you could put that down to a trigger happy owner.

Park, Swindon scored 62 goals in 36 games that season. Only Crewe scored more and they’d played a game more before the season was curtailed.

There is playing 4-2-3-1 and playing 4-2-3-1. Wellens is the latter.
