I thought we were playing the better football earlier in our run and in the last 4 or 5 games we seem to give the ball away sloppily (we were better tonight in our passing) but you are spot on with we need to play at a greater speed to pull the opposition around to create chances.

We got beat by two goals from set pieces tonight.
A few months ago we would have been defeated in games on a regular basis from set pieces under Stuart McCall's managerial tenure.
We've lost twice under T & S and are no longer relegation fodder, what they have achieved Saturday, Tuesday is nothing short a miracle and fatigue as finally caught up with us.
Winning is what we all want but sometimes the hype makes losing difficult pill to swallow.

If I'm in that dressing room I'm walling Sutton up. You simply can't do that to your team mates after everyone has worked their b***ocks off for 90 minutes.

He's a young kid and he's been decent lately but there's no excuse for doing that.

I agree but as I say you can't go for 50/50 challenges there, having said that how did Dolan get that over a 6' + wall and down again, could our defender done better ?, as Andy K said get back on the training pitch have a day or so of light training and get their heads right for a big game on Saturday.

Newport played this like an away game as the useless commentators kept telling us they kept everybody behind the ball and they offered nothing going forward until they got the lucky break.
They have been in the top six all season and yet they set up to stop us rather than having a go. An unfortunate loss tonight but we are still in a decent position and if we are to reach the play offs I don’t care if we get there in the last match of the season

And yet were asking how do we accommodate the likes of Rowe or Novak if he comes back, as you say we had plenty of the ball without looking dangerous, we only worked Townsend the 3 times, the save from Woods block buster was a good save pushing it onto the bar but as you say we don't create enough.

I was just thinking the same tonight, what if it goes down to a Darlington or Hull City away finish like it did all those years ago, Morecambe away last game of the season winner takes all, if you'd have offered that 7/8 weeks ago most would have snapped your hand off.

5.50am start for myself and any other Aussie based city fans!!

Real last minute kick in the teeth, very harsh penalty. Woods effort would have been blinder should it have gone in. Played nice football but lacked in the last quarter.

Still comfortable we'll make the play offs.

It was a penalty all day long as was the foul for the fee kick, Paudie was also lucky with a very good penalty shout against him. That said we shouldn't have lost but that's the luck of football as we found out against Bolton. Have to win on Saturday now or a bigger gap could open up.

The test for T & S is how we improve in the final 3rd whilst remaining solid at the back. At the moment Rowe is odd one out for me. The old "can't live with him, can't live without" springs to mind. A luxury player who can pop up with moments of brilliance but appears to offer little on the whole. How do we get the most from him? Is it playing him up top as part of a 2 or having him as an impact sub when defences get tired?

If we lose at Carlisle and the points gap becomes 10, the play offs will be well out of our reach.

Despite the excellent run under Trueman and Sellars, we simply are not good enough yet to go up.

We have a decent base to build on for next season, with the right recruitment, we should be aiming for top 3 next season

Yet the run we have been on suggests we are good enough to go up as a team. I think last nights game will see if we can change our mindset of the last couple of games where mentally we've looked defensive minded. To be fair we didn't do a lot wrong last night but a few on here had mentioned about us conceding too many free kicks near our own goal. On the face of it 2 moments of rashness have cost us points but in truth what cost us was our inability to look like scoring 2 or 3 when we have the opponent rocking.
I agree we do still need recruitment especially in the front six as the back four once again did its job. Too many 6 out of 10s starting to appear and the balance at times seems slightly off. Test of Trueman and Sellars now is how to get that front clicking, we have a few options in the squad.

    Agree with this.

I am hoping that having Gareth Evans back might give us that bit of experience, guile and quality further up the pitch.

Evans will be injured in a few weeks.

    He can’t be counted on.

    Headless chicken yesterday.

I was so confused by his performance I had to check he actually was number 17!
