Disagree -there IS real context to this result. Exeter are a clear benchmark of roughly where you have to be to be in the mix at the end of the season and we more than matched them today.

 

Only based on their previous achievements. Roughly half of their side today are new signings, so where they finished last season is only partially relevant. Either way, its a decent start and something to build on.

 

How can you know Exeter are the benchmark? Good season last year, shipped some players out and signed some. Going to take a few weeks for all of the stronger teams to become obvious.

 

How on earth do you know "Exeter are a clear benchmark"? It's the first game of the season! What they've done in seasons past is immaterial. How many fans thought Morecambe were the benchmark after the first game of last season?

Don't be daft, player turnover or not they've been in the playoffs for something like the past four or five years on the trot. Slightly concerning we couldn't take our chances but on the whole its a decent result for the first game of the season.

 

Really? They finished 9th last season.

 

Last nine seasons in league two, three play off spots all in the last five years, the rest have been two 9th places also in the last five years and then two 10th places, a 14th and a 16th.

 

So top ten seven in nine that's really good better than we've done.

 

Well not really because we’ve had some three top seven finishes in the league above and two other top half finishes including a league one play off final. If you mean better than City the two seasons they’ve been back in league two, then yes.

Is it too soon to start your annual relegation thread @Fordy117 ? For what it’s worth, I half agree with you, we need additional quality but I’m a bloody sight more optimistic with DA at the helm than I have been for a while.

 

For what it's worth I thought the 90 minute performance was decent enough. Certainly things to work on but definitely something to work with.

It's also stating the obvious but with so many teams very similar in terms of ability we really needed to score during that first half period when on top. Failure to do that put us under unnecessary pressure and we'll need to be more clinical going forward if we're to achieve our stated aims this year.

 

Oh! don't get it twisted I am more optimistic but this site was an embarrassment by some at during pre season.

We lack quality and that was shown today but we are lucky that they is still plenty of time left in transfer window to bring some players in.
