My view is that Angol is a very good lower league striker .. but shouldn't have his contract renewed. He has had a poor track record over the recent past because of his injuries. He has only played 100 league games over the past 5 seasons and has spent more time in the sick room than on the pitch. As much as I like him, he'd be too much of a risk for me.

Exactly. This squad of players has seen us 2 points off 20th place. Whatever the rights and wrong of this season that simply is disgraceful. To be 20 points off the playoffs just shows the levels this club has dropped to. For Sutton United to be that far ahead of us, the heirachy of this club should publicly apologise for what they have done to this club.

Reality is we’ve had poor recruitment for a long while. Ryan Sparks has overseen 4 managers, turnover of c40 players coming and going in past 18 months and more sound bites than home wins this season.

We have the one of the worst squad of players (barring Scunthorpe) in this League.

when you look at the accounts of Sutton, Forest Green, Newport and Northampton - their budgets are much lower than ours and in Sutton’s case significantly lower. All are outperforming us on the pitch.

Until we have good leadership and a culture that supports a winning mentality, we’ll continue as is. I hope the update coming summer provides time for proper thought, reflecting and player planning. Some of the players we’ve signed in past 6 months (Robinson, Delfonso, Elliott etc) we should be no where near yet they are in our squad.

I remember Sparks reaction when he signed Robinson right at the end of the summer window - 'heres a player with a point to prove ' and acting as if he had pulled off some kind of cunning worldly. How easily conned!
But blow me, we bloody repeat the scenario at the end of the winter window with Delfouneso!
Now that shows how shit our recruitment and planning really is, no lessons learnt

Sparks should be nowhere near footballing decisions, business yes but football no chance. That’s why we need a director of football or equivalent someone with some footballing knowledge higher up than the manager.

Who cares what the side is? Result means absolutely nothing, better for Hughes to experiment so he can decide who to keep next season.

Also congrats to Evans, whether he is coming to the end of his time at City or not 600 professional appearances is a great effort

Surely, the best solution would be to pay them off, and any other player that Hughes doesnt want. No point in having them around the squad next season if there is no chance of them getting a game

I get it too. Its painful, but there can be no hiding places. When assessing the squad for next season, Hughes needs to pay much more attention to performances like this than the one on Friday. Big changes. Far too many embarrassing days like today this season.

Stefan will be over it quickly though, Probably by the time he’s having his breakfast tomorrow.

Disgusting Dave, when you pull on your shirt and tie your boots, no matter what level you play at, you give your all, you fight for everything and show desire. How the hell this lot today didn't even do anything like that is nothing short of disgraceful, they all should be ashamed that they are called 'professional' footballers.
None of them can complain if they are shown the door this summer.

    My thoughts on the game

Certain players tend to shine when they have good players around em

And certain players tend to play worse when surrounded by shit

Paudie is a good example of the former an Walker is a good example for the latter

No one stood out today, But a few observations suggest that Lavery, When actually fit, has half a football brain in him an is actually quiet decent on the ball. And on crosses, go figure!

Hendrie may not be the best but my god is Threlkeld awful. He’s the worst player to put on the Claret an Amber in the better part of a Decade an its not even close

Football is all about triangles. Give an go, give an go. Unfortunately for our players, It appears The “Go” part of the equation is silent. Lets just pass the ball an stand around with our cocks in our hands an wait for Houdini to somehow help us create a chance

There is a concept taught to football at grass routes level. When you receive the ball, You open your body up so you have more options available to you. You don’t receive the ball an just face the player who gave the ball to you, cus the ball will just end up where it started

Songo may not be a ball carrier so to speak. Hes more of a destroyer type midfielder. Even he should have the basic ability to carry the ball forward somewhat. Whats with all these square passes to Paudie within our own penalty box when the colchester players are standing 20 yards off him? Like surely he’s not that inept at using his feet

Evans has the turning circle of the titanic. Ironic really considering he has the agility of an iceberg

Sutton doesn’t look interested, Looks like negotiations haven’t gone well

Gillead doing his best impression of the wandering Jew again. Great work lad, only thing he’s been consistent at this season

on a side note. Never has a player played this many games over a course of a season an not one person has established what his best position is. Not a striker. Definitely not a winger. Was useless as a no.8. We need to find a position which involves a lot of running but is no where near the ball. Maybe a cheerleading spot might open up in the summer

Someone needs to remind Cook this isn’t sunday league. You actually have to stay in good shape to be good at the job at hand. No surprise his form has dropped off a cliff

Cooke treated Colchester’s pitch like a bouncy castle. He was all over the place an the ball bounced up every time it got to him

Il leave things on a somewhat good note. Its a shame Angol is always injured because he actually looks like a decent footballer in this league

I realise now that its not much of a good note, But yeah….

    Roll on Scunthorpe!

Hughes needs to play his best side for the 3 remaining games after today and try and end the season on a winning note.

If Hughes hasn't make his mind up yet about the dross he has inherited, then God help us.

Hopefully I won't have to see Threlkeld in a City shirt ever again.

Unless the right kind of 'pay as you play' deal can be agreed. To be honest I would rather we do that and add 2 more strikers than keep Cook who just lacks mobility (and obviously all the other front men at the club can do one)

I’d sub Threlkeld now. Lost his man again. Doesn’t look arsed. This is absolutely gash.

Well that sums our lot up

Lavery running down left...6 Colchester players run back before any other city player appears

We can only hope Hughes will not tolerate this shit show, it should be an embarrassment for him to be associated with a non performance like this

Game over thank goodness for that utterly shocking performance.
