I agree. Been to the cricket a few times since the redevelopment and it really is a souless place compared to what it was. All steel and plastic seats and that new pavilion is an absolute monstrosity. Used to like Headingley rugby ground as it was one of the last of the old style sports grounds around here but that too has lost much of its atmosphere. Having said that I hate our ground as well. Ridiculously lobsided and very, very tired now after years of poor maintenance .

The current lease lapses in 2028 and although that seems like a long time off, there would be lots to do in a relatively short time if we are to have a replacement stadium in 2028. I suspect we might have a couple of years, possibly 3 years of thinking and looking at alternatives before we have to commit to a move from VP. I just hope that the current incumbents are already having discussions on this and aren't ignoring the issue!

Huddersfield ground is not that good for creating an atmosphere. The design in my experience does not retain all the noise/atmospheres created by the fans.

When we went there the season after we got to the Capital One Cup Final we took a full away end and as you say that night the atmosphere was great, it would have been better if Parky had put our strongest 11 out, if you remember he brought Wells on late in the game he scored and town were holding on.

It was the Vaughan game, the season after we'd been to Wembley, Bradford boss Phil Parkinson had made seven changes to the 11 that drew at the weekend and threw on regular strike partnership Wells and James Hanson on the hour mark.

No the design fails to retain the sound - the gaps at the corners do not help. The fans do help the atmosphere at all games - but to me one of the key points when designing a ground should be be to retain the sound of the fans.

The noise was great by the City fans within the stand (which is the best one)¥ - but a lot dissipates into the air and is not retained in the stadium.

There are some good examples of poor stadium design, Stoke City's being a prime example, open corners allowing a biting wind across the stadium. The Emirates another, 3 non descript tiers completely uniform. My like of Huddersfield stadium was that the design was somewhat different to the soulless box designs of the likes of Wigan, Millwall and Blackburn.

That can happen anywhere. Valley parade is fairly packed in but when i used to play cricket on King George playing fields on match day you could hear when a team scored. Take a look at Seattle Seahawks stadium, completely wide open with no roof but officially the loudest support in the world. And thats without a roof and one end open.

Brentford’s new ground will never expand by 10k seats

It's possible (although all of my original caveats would apply) but I don't know whether it would make any financial or strategic sense to do that.

Exactly. Liverpool's annual revenues are around £600m and it's a very profitable global business. Our revenues are around £5m and we might be lucky to break even! It's a very different world between the Champions League and the Khazi League

Although there is an option to extend the lease on similar terms as present, I don't recall whether a shorter period is an option. I'd be very surprised if we had to extend for another 25 years for what would then be a 50 year old stadium. It wouldn't make sense to commit to that. I'll have to dig out the LA again and have a look.

Parts of the stadium are already past their best and into the new lease will need a sizeable maintenance and refurbishment schedule. All the corporate areas are outdated and there's a significant cost, i guess at well into 6 figures to properly refurbish them. General wear and tear and seat replacement doesn't come cheap either, although i presume the contract negotiators know a lot more about this than I do. Work on lease talks would have to take into account the possible building and feasibility of a new stadium and how long that would take with planning and construction. Leave it too late and the new stadium is no longer an option on the table.

No doubt planning for a new stadium or something else as an alternative would be part of the club's longer term vision! Oh wait ....

But we need to aim to get in with the big boys. You know like Mr Rupp said we would be in the PL.

Bradford City and people are so downbeat. Never this can do or find a way attitude.

Why do we need a 25k stadium?

Do we currently pay for all costs, improvements at VP? Is the lease 25 years?

I think we need to look at all alternatives and not rule any out.

We make excuses not to do things. Are the same excuses will be made for a new training ground. @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander might be able to tell us more but I believe West Ham fans are protesting tomorrow against the owners due to a lack of off the field development. That's fans that want to move the club forward. Us we just sit back and make excuses.

How about top scientists, youth development coaches like @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam said that Chelsea have?

We need some vision to take this club forward as it's going backwards. We can't just make excuses.

Again, what's the point in Mr Rupp if he isn't going to spend his money?

Very funny. Julian Rhodes is no Karen Brady on many levels. Just rub it in! :(

I suspect a new lease on present terms would amount to paying around £12 to £15 million in rent over a 25 year period, The present lease as I was led to believe increases around 3% year on year as part of the 5 year rent reviews as at present, This is likely to continue under a new lease and of course all repairs and improvements etc are the responsibility of the club not the owner
