Parkies results were fantastic. But his football was from the dark ages - an absolute dinosaur. I remember a lot of 1-0 wins that season we lost in play offs to Millwall. Season after McCall entertained (frustrated at times) and went one better than Parkinson.

Lots of off field events was McCalls undoing that 2nd season. Parkinson had a chairman that backed him. Like I said, fabulous cup runs but Parkinson couldn't get us out of L1 either, had 3 attempts.

The first season of his second spell he was fully backed unfortunately Parky had left who would have got us up that season

Fully backed? You obviously weren't in on the full story of how McCall knew where things were heading with the owner/manager relationship even in that first season. Its a wonder he kept us in the playoff picture for as long as he did in that second season. And the records show he actually went one better than Parky despite having little time to cobble a squad together with what Parky had left after he took the entire backroom staff with him.

How many of those 3 seasons was promotion the expectation?

I think it's a little overblown that Parkinson bored and McCall entertained. Personally I don't particularly like the McCall style, its prettier that's for sure but it leaves me a little cold when the tempo is slow. Its down to everyones personal opinion though.

Parky is the lower league Tony Pulis, to be fair to Parky he got th best out of some pretty ordinary footballers due to his limited approach, the less complicated you make it for league 2 footballer, the more chance you have of them understanding their role.

I think that's very fair in all honesty but I see little benefit in discussing Parky as only McCall currently matters.

All I will say in addition to what you rightly said about making it simple for "basic" footballers is that Parkinson also, IMO, gave us 2 of the 3 best midfield partnerships I've seen at city and two of the classiest centre halves for their level in recent memory so it wasn't all just base level football,

When the football was poor and PP went back to basics it wasn't great to watch but the exact same can be said for McCall. This idea that the football under McCall is sparkling and has constantly has people on the edge of their seat is not my feelings at all.

You see “little benefit in discussing Parky” but then spend the next two paragraphs doing just that haha

I think people mix up “Good football” with entertaining football. Because a team uses easy Square passing all match and keeps possession is not really entertaining however with good footballers probably above league two standard pass and move with quick thought and action is good to watch and effective.
As is being more direct with a lot of goalmouth action

That first season when Stuart got us to Wembley the vast majority of fans were well happy with the football on show.
The following season with what I suggest was a far weaker squad it was still possession football but somehow did not feel the same.
I dont go along with the football Parky played as dark age football I'd suggest we saw far more final third action that watching Stuart's style, ya plays ya money and takes ya chance I enjoyed both, but then I'm a happy flapper :).

I agree with that. But I think a lot of so called “ good football” is a bore fest

Bolton are still after another striker so I can see Maynard ending up there and not Port Vale like most expect.

Getting a bit concerning now, that with two weeks to go, we don't really seem to have a structured team.

Totally skewed for me, the first season wasn't 'an attempt to get us promoted', it was about consolidating.

What's more important than counting the seasons where we didn't get promoted, is the constant season upon season improvement driving us towards a potential promotion.

What would people's views on free agent Matty Foulds coming in, yes I know he is primarily as a left/centre back but could we have anthony O'connor at right back and solve our problem with no right back in the club
