Don't worry, I'm sure someone will mention that we'll be in for Messi with him being out of contract at the end of this season

If they were excellent and with experience they wouldn’t be sent out on loan!! What’s your point? The fact they are inexperienced means we may well get a pearler

I seriously think we need to take a step back now the window has closed and look at where we are. Its not been a great window but neither has it been the disaster some are making it out to be.
The balance still isnt totally right but daft as it sounds, January will be here before we know it. We have a lot of players who either as a legacy before Stuart rejoined or are on 1 year deals since he came back who will all be out of contract in the summer. Some of those might move on in Jan as their contracts near completion and I fully expect a couple more to come in to continue the evolvement of the squad. By the turn of the year those who are 50/50 in Stuarts current plans will also have been assessed for a further 2 and half months and I think he will have a clearer picture of what he is looking for.

But even more importantly, it would appear we are not one of the clubs who have serious financial issues and might not survive the season - and talk of a new CEO to come in will hopefully inject new life and stability for the club (we have to get this appointment right!). The commercial side still seems to be functioning well and I honestly believe the fan base will rally round once we can return to VP (despite the negatron comments from some on here)

We just have to be realistic in the current climate and it would be no surprise if what happened this week (Harrogate - doom and gloom/ Mansfield - this is the way to go) reoccurs over the coming weeks. Stuart (and Kenny yesterday) have been a bit prickly and stubborn in their interviews and this hasnt helped with any feelgood factor, but hopefully we will start to see a formation and system that suits what we currently have which will aid some consistency. We DO have some good players (and I agree without doubt some who none of us would be too disappointed to see moving on) so there is nothing to stop us being around the play off zone come Christmas. Hopefully by then the other developments at the club will also be a lot clearer.

The next 2 matches will be interesting as against teams who are having a good start to the season - as someone mentioned in an earlier post 4 points would be a pretty good return. I know some will say that is not ambitious enough for City, but for me hanging in there in these very strange times is key - I just hope some of the football we played yesterday is more in evidence in the weeks ahead.

Apologies for being a bit rambly (headache :mask:: unamused:)

Hossannah and Samuels no different to Pickford, Burke, O'Brien, Cullen...

Kids with no experience is how it works.

Pickford wasn't quite the rookie when he signed for us. He'd already done just about a season in the division we're currently in for Burton & Carlisle, prior to signing for us when we were in the league one at the time

It's interesting what you say about there being a few players none of us would be too disappointed to see moving on. A few weeks ago,I would have had BRE and DMH in that category but in the two league games BRE has featured in so far, he hasn't done a lot wrong (and we've won them both), and DMH did well in front of Hosannah yesterday so although it's only one game, there could be potential for a good partnership to be built up there.
As things stand, I wouldn't be sorry to see Ismail or Guthrie leave, and I've not seen anything from Longridge to suggest he'd be a loss (although admittedly that is based on little actual evidence other than his very limited game time). I guess a lot is going to depend on whether we can get Wood tied down to a new contract. If not, I really do fear that we will lose him in January.

BRE was always pretty solid but then lost his head and dived in from time to time.

He appears to me to be a solid division two defender. Maybe could step up to league one with some coaching.

He played brilliantly away at Stevenage last season but seemed to lose his way from there unfortunately

There is still a bit of quality out there. Hard to see much of it dropping to this level, or City being in the market.

Andre Green would a great coup at this level, but can’t see him dropping down to L2. Stuart was apparently after a creative midfielder late in the window - which seems odd to me, but Jacob Butterfield hasn’t got a club. He might be tempted by a short term deal, if he just wants to play. Still lives in the area too I believe.

Jordan Mutch and Anthony Pilkington. Again though, can’t see them being interested in League 2.

Jay Simpson was prolific at this level a couple of years ago I believe. Still doesn’t have a club.

Also, that Butterfield chap. He played for us a bit didn't he? Surely the lure of him sampling his favourite curry house again, could get him back here.

I absolutely agree, January will soon be arriving, now that we're almost at Bonfire Night. But if previous January transfer windows are representative, the supporters could ultimately remain as frustrated as they sometimes are when the summer window closes.

Can't help but think that we've missed a trick, if the rumours regarding just how financially stretched many clubs in this league are true. Wouldn't this have been an ideal season to try and push the boat out a bit to gain promotion whilst our competitors are struggling? If we now tread water until next season, then our rivals in this league may be in a stronger position come August 2021. Making the task of getting out of this league both more expensive and objectively tougher.

Added to that, pushing the boat out does not automatically lead to success, especially at this level when that often means signing mercenaries chasing possibly their last big pay day.
