How's that simple science working out so far in us finding a replacement for Vaughan? My simple science is that it would be a hell of a risk to get rid of another before we have a better quality replacement lined up. The name doing the rounds yesterday was Kwesi Appiah - he's a down grade on Guthrie, never mind Vaughan.

 

I will repeat what I have been saying. MCCall and practically every other fan on here was bemoaning the fact that he had inherited 4 'number 9's' as McCall put it. We have got rid of the best one of the four, which I fully understand the reasoning behind that. We have the chance to get rid of one of the others,a player that most fans, maybe not you, don't rate at all, to get better balance, but McCall has chosen not to do that, which I don't get.

McCall is sticking with his two targets so presumably he feels there is a decent chance of landing one. I think the other couple of signings will be loans and not arrive until late

 

Keep the shite in the squad because we might replace them with someone worse. Amazing logic.

Any manager worth their salt would back themselves in the transfer market. If McCall doesn’t, and it’s the sole reason he’s keeping Guthrie then he shouldn’t really be in the job.

At no point anywhere have I said that I rate Guthrie or that I think he is the answer to all our problems, and I have never disputed what McCall has previously said about the players he has inherited. I just think it would be a big mistake to let another one of our forwards go BEFORE we know we have a decent replacement in the building for the one that has already gone.

 

One?? We need a RB, CM and forward at least.

Our squad is nowhere near good enough at the minute.

At our level, it's all about getting the best out of the squad under our given restraints.Stuart's job is to do exactly that and to find the blend and chemistry to progress us. The Board need to show ambition motivated through a love of the Club and support him to reach set goals. Not sure we are seeing much so far on either front but both parties need to provide impetus and impact imo.

 

That isn't the logic though is it? The logic is that when you are already 1 striker down, you don't get rid of another one unless you already have something better lined up to replace them.

 

Might have an slight injury or the club trying to force him out.

not sure why you need to have an immediate replacement lined up, the transfer window closes in October. Plenty of time to scout targets and find a superior replacement.

Leave it until the last minute and panic buy God knows who or what is left at the bottom of the barrel.

Exactly! The other point to bear in mind is if we end up in a situation where we are looking for 2 replacement forwards, agents are going to have a field day with us.
