Looking at out of contract strikers with pace, there isnt a lot out there that would be realistic.

People just expect there to be a direct replacement for Vaughan. More likely we'll get a young lad on loan who will be a squad filler.

 

Is Bogle even that quick? I thought that he was a target man, same with Samuel?

If it wasn’t for Covid we’d have finished last season with Guthrie, Donaldson and Novak. Unless Rhodes had given up in on the season back in January, the club were expecting those three and possibly Connolly to be the source of goals. Vaughan presumably knew he wasn’t coming back to City and I suspect the club did too, even if they hadn’t given up hope.

Vaughan’s direct replacement is already in the building. We’ve just realised they’re all past their best or not up to standard.

 

I think Ben Stephens is a highly rated striker/midfielder that just signed a new 1 year deal with them. Certainly worth a shot at his age.

Also as above Dicko would be great but as per all of them names mentioned, it's city and we won't be signing anyone like that.

 

I mentioned Dicko a few weeks ago after he left Hull City I would think his wages would be a problem and believe he may be looking for a club abroad, but you never know until you ask.

Parker in the T&A this morning saying that McCall is looking to bring in a younger forward before looking at other areas. Sounding more and more like a youth loan. Had talk sport on yesterday, they brought up the lack of loans in L1&2 in that basically nobody is loaning players at the minute compared to past seasons.

One of the problems with this cap especially for our level more than L1, under the registration rules players contracted to your club under 21 don't need to be registered, however all loan players have to be registered regardless of age. And most good prem youths are already on around a grand or more a week so you'd be spending a cap spot and your average wage that you wouldn't want to spend too much over the odds for on unproven talent. Where as with all the free agents, at the minute they probably want a bit more than most L2 clubs would be willing to offer. Radio reckons there will be a late flurry of loans and free agents signing up when clubs have to make best squad decisions rather than wait for the best financial moves.

 

Been talking about young lads coming in from the Prem for ages now. Get that boy up from Palace tomorrow and get him playing some trials. Or is Stuart/the Board waiting to see how we get on this weekend? Guthrie and Novak might suddenly click.

 

I see southend have signed a lad from Barnet who scored 14 in the national league last season. Albeit he is 28, but I would much prefer us to go down this route of looking in the national league for players hungry to get back into the pro game and who have shown they can bag the goals at a similar level to L2. Much less of a gamble than a Premier league loanee who, even if he turns out good, will only be recalled in January anyway.

 

Southend have to pay an outstanding debt of 500k by end of October. How they are signing players is beyond me? I thought they had an embargo?

 

Yeh I don't get it either. Two year deal too which is madness in their position.

 

Tranmere made a good loan signing today in Liam feeney from Blackpool. 14 assists in League One last season.
There are players available from the leagues above and decent ones. Even on loan if we don’t want to commit to a permanent signing. Seems we are either not looking hard enough or paying peanuts?

first unless they are holding out for a

so that leaves players who are no better
or worse than what we've got!
