Vaughan coming to the club and the subsequent fall out from it is a marker as to what we are as a club. Who was it that targeted him in the first place or Bowyer come to speak of it? How did we let a situation arise that a player we gave a three year deal to on relatively big money for us in league 2 didn't want to be here after less than 6 months? And then to compound the situation Vaughan is sent out on loan because he's had enough, we side with Bowyer than sack him a week or so later. Who sanctioned that? And with Oteh, Vaughan and Patrick all leaving we bring in two strikers late on the transfer window on 18 month deals, Guthrie and Novak. But on whos authority? Bowyers? We allowed him to bring in two strikers but then sack him? Really? Are we really that mismanged at top level?

All the above has a pattern to it, a pattern of no strategy of M/O to it, merely reacting to a situation when its beyond tenable. Not surprising when most of the staff there have never worked at a successful sporting infrastructure, some even having jobs withy very little experience of the actual role.

 

You know what I don't get? One minute Stuart is saying we need pace and the other he's talking to 35 and 33 year olds Ian Henderson and Nicky Maynard and currently injured Kieran Agard. Almost like we have no idea what we're doing isn't it.

I was making the point there are many possibilities as to why we haven't signed a striker and there's no reason to believe wanting to save a couple of weeks' wages, which is what the poster I was responding to felt was probably the case, was one of them. If we've decided to stick with the three we have, which you're suggesting, that would also support what I was saying. Though that would seem to be unlikely

Correct. Spent nearly all his career in the top 2 leagues though, maybe he needs to drop to this level to get going. He was very highly thought of at one point, I think. Tbh, my expectations of what we'll get are getting lower and lower.

 

Although he has to take some of the blame its not as simple as just letting him take the can. The whole way it was handled left a sour taste in the mouth. And that carries on to how we are dealing with the hunt for a new striker. McCall has been here now over 6 months yet still hasn't got a striker of his own choice at the club. Even now, into the start of the season and he has to work with what he inherited even though we've been told the Vaughan replacement is apparently all under control. Of the three inherited, one signed the extra year in his favour (not ours) and the other two we're panic buys in January due to the Vaughan situation bening allowed to develop unchallenged. Hell, the Vaughan situation was left unchallenged till August which still sees us without a replacement.

And we wonder why fans complain?

 

Will Keane has had his fair share of injuries but if we could get him firing and playing could have a half decent player on our hands. Tough one but we are never gonna get our first choices this far into the window. Strikers are a premium

Don't think we really had a first choice, just names the club knew fans had heard of but had very little interest in signing unless they wanted to play for magic beans.

 

He's just another big lump. This would be an even more brainless signing than the lad from Palace.

 

I’d rather we look to bring in a freebie rather than loanee. That way, we avoid the usual trauma about him doing well and being recalled, thus leaving us in a hole. Or we blow the budget to keep them and their form drops off the end of a cliff...

Anybody signing from RIASA will be a development player and not there to be thrown straight in at the deep end as our main forward, at least i'd hope so anyway.
