Andy "You know" Kiwomya.

17 games into the season and still can’t get Ben Richards-Everton’s name right.

 

He's not by himself mate I refer to him as Everton as I refered to Nathaniel Knight-Percival as Percivil.

 

Interesting - seriously? His voice is a dull monotone and the content of what he says is mostly bland football clichés or statements of the bleeding obvious. And almost every sentence starts with, "You know", which drives me to distraction. He occasionally comes out with a genuine insight that a non- professional might not have thought of, but it's rare and mostly lost amid the rest of the dross that comes out of his mouth.

I've nothing against the guy but, in my book, it's a basic requirement of being on a broadcast medium that you are at least vaguely articulate and he simply isn't. He shouldn't be anywhere near a regular radio microphone. Gary Jones, John Dreyer, Sticks, Jamie Lawrence, Matt Killgallon and Guy Branston are all ex players who've been used as expert summerisers in recent times and all knock AK into a cocked hat for their insights, delivery and enthusiasm.
It bad enough that we no longer have a choice of station and have to put up with the crackling and whistling on MW, without having to listen to Kiwomya's turgid drone and constant You Know's. It just shows where we are in the pecking order at Radio Leeds that we are fobbed off with this inarticulate mumbler. I cannot believe that he is the best they could come up with. I used to enjoy switching between Pulse and Radio Leeds on the way to and from games, to hear the views of various ex pros. I've virtually given up bothering now because AK's blatant unsuitability for broadcasting just winds me up.

And Gary Lineker has more presence, insight and articulation in his little finger than Andy Kiwomya.

I'll get off the fence now.

 

Seeing as Leeds and Huddersfield are both in a higher division than City,we were always going to get the worst frequency,but I have to agree about Kiwomya,there must be better alternatives available.Almost makes you long for the chance to listen to Jason Thornton on the Pulse.

There's no almost about it. For all his shortcomings I'd rather listen to Jason Thornton, and whichever credible summariser they put with him, than AK, any day.

 

Love the guy but Jamie Lawrence is no better than Kiwomya. Branston is equally as annoying. To be honest there aren't many ex players that make good commentators. Gary Jones and Lee Duxbury are probably the best of the bunch.

 

But at least they can sling three words together without a 'You know' in between them. It makes him unlistenable for me. Basic articulation is a prerequisite for a regular broadcaster and he just doesn't have it.

 

That's why I put Jamie in the same bracket.

 

Definitely agree regarding some of the past ex-players. I thought Dreyer always did an excellent job, and did you mention Winds. That always made for an interesting listen

I take your points, they're well made. I do miss Pulse and am I dreaming it, but didn't BCB used to do it back in the day?

 

Kiwomya is terrible. He sounds extremely unintelligible and must be earning peanuts as I can think of no other plausible reason for RL employing him.

 

Its the "former city winger" tagline thats rammed down the mike every 2 mins thats as infuriating as the "You know".

 

Radio Leeds might be dull but atleast it gives those tuning in have atleast some idea as to how we are playing. There literally was no point of the Pulse as Thornton is the most deluded man on earth and provided commentary that was so misleading and inaccurate that you might as well have not been listening to it at all. That's not even accounting for the fact that he was an irritating little twit to boot.

 

I listened to some of the Rochdale game on Radio Leeds. The commentary, and even some of AK's comments, wasn't too bad at all.
It's the first time I've heard the live commentary. My previous experience has been while driving to and from games, when the 'You knows' and statements of the bleeding obvious are out in force.

 

Tim Steere is a good young commentator and he even appears on BBC national radio occasionally reading the sports news on 5 Live so he must be well thought of. A shame Radio Leeds lost Wayne Jacobs when he joined Darren Moore at WBA as he was superb alongside Tim Steere. He was then replaced by Andy Kiwomya and he's been there since, I do think Andy is improving but he does seem a little nervous at times.

 

Sean McCarthy was an excellent replacement for you know who on Saturday. There was less "messing about" and more incisive comments than in other matches this season.

Don't get me going on the MW thing. I haven't got it in my car or on anything at home. Last weekend I managed to find an old clock radio we should have chucked years ago. To make matters worse a few weeks back Huddersfield kicked off at 12 noon so I was expecting us to be on FM or DAB when we kicked off at three.. Alas no, the same broadcast of the Leeds match was on both and we were still on MW
