Not sure Cook has played at that level before but with better players around him giving better service he'd be worth a punt IMO.

 

He's had one season in League 1 with Walsall. They got relegated although he scored a few goals.

 

Thats true but tbh it was the January recruitment that let us down. Once Chapman was injured we absolutely had nobody else good enough to do that role. We had plenty of bodies who could play there but none of them anywhere near good enough

 

Agreed, at Rogered Tart- just not good enough, all teams have to cope with injuries but it didn't stop the cobblers getting promoted.
Hughes knew we were losing Wright but our January loaness were a disaster-
Costelloe/Dion/Nevers/Bola and even Derbyshire contributed so very little

 

Agreed. MH just didn't have any other options and we looked lop-sided because of it.

 

As it's turn out your bang on, but when you look at all the players we brought in this season as a club we've wasted a lot of money.
Most have had their chance to show what their all about unfortunately most have not been impressive enough to be a regular bench warmer, especially as we brought Gent in and Hodges with his lower league knowledge it's been a bit of a disaster.

 

Crichlow/Wright/Banks have been good.
Bola/Nevers/Costello/Periera not so good.

A mixed bag.

 

Agreed. The recruitment strategy sèemed to be more focussed around getting bodies in the building as opposed to looking at quality. As a result we had too many players earning a wage who ultimately MH didnt trust enough to give them any meaningful game time

 

The most telling problem was lack of goals elsewhere take Cookie Monster away and its dire. Did you see Stockport three top scorers... and yesterday it was an average team with lots of energy and we waved a very very limp fist at them for all of ten minutes.... I have never seen challenges like what Halliday did yesterday??? Look at the highlights a few times he did a full 180 degree turn missed their player and fell over... three times he did this`?

 

He certainly isn’t top end league 1 forward.

Had an excellent season and I would’ve thought he’s off.

 

Odusina, Oliver, Harratt, added to your above then you can say although they were already at the club the likes of Fould's,Hendrie, Threlkeld, East being over looked, the likes of Clayton and Derbyshire were always a gamble but I can see why he brought 2 old heads in for the run in.
Can we afford a squad that big next season as some of the above are still contracted to the club.

Yes, some signings have worked and some haven't.
Odusina, on a 3 year deal, hasn't gone well.

My lad said the same as you yesterday, he reckons if anything, he will sign for Carlisle, especially if they go up. Didn’t he come through their academy?

 

With Wrexham and Notts county now gone from the National League , only Chesterfield have any chance of stopping Hartlepool winning the league in my opinion.
Cook would bag 30 goals up there and not have a 200 mile round trip to training every day.
Can they afford him though?
Can they afford not to try get him?

 

We need to be very mean and ruthless in sending players on their way. We now need quality rather than quantity. It costs money but if we are serious about promotion then so be it. We will lose our fantastic fan base we have built if we continue to languish in lg2. We need to be entertained as well, let’s not serve up negative football.

When we needed him the most he wasn’t there. Not his fault though. The service to him was shocking and he was battling against 2 to 3 defenders.
