Have Carlisle got the money, I would hope we make him a decent offer after his time with us and obviously this seasons achievement can Carlisle match or beat that.

I think Cook will still be here next season he is not getting any younger. He is at a club where he has had his best season and liked by fans. I think he will stay

That part of the field has been problematic all season. Losing Osadebe early on and Walker for a long period saw us play Chapman away from his preferred position and i'm sure Hughes won't have expected Periera to be the flop he turned out to be. Wright was arguably the success of the wide players, even including Banks, although Hughes did drop him for a few games. Losing him was a blow that wasn't overcome, Nevers coming in didn't work to address it and Jake Young never convinced he was worthy of the role despite a couple of notable goals.
Chapman picking up the injury did indeed concide with our form failing badly, don't think we hardly created a chance for Andy Cook, and when he is the reason you are anywhere near the playoffs that pretty much spells the end of your season. With the left side being a concern, Hughes's default was to go for in various games a three of Alex Gilliead, Adam Clayton and Richie Smallwood. What you can take from that is it wasn't the players bottled the playoffs, they never really stood a chance. Why? Because the manager simply refused to line up with the tools available to potentially give them that chance.
Always said, any manager worth their salt should be able to nulify us if he does his homework. Fair play to PaulSimpson, he did just that.
No excuses next season Mark. You don't get us that promotion, we look elsewhere.

Me too. At 33, surely he realises the grass isn't always greener. He's had a bad time at Mansfield so he knows it doesn't always work. Also, recently married. Can't imagine he would want to rock the boat.

Cook ain't going to Bolton, i love him to bits but he ain't getting a league 1 side promoted. I agree with you, Carlisle desperately need a striker and its that area of the world. Just have a feeling Cook is looking for a payday beyond their means.

Pereira should have been given a chance IMO. He couldn’t have been worse than Eisa’s game at Crewe.

Pereira has been woeful though. All the wide left options have been poor.
If Wright had of stayed the full season I genuinely think we'd have got auto's.
That pace would have made the world of difference.

If Hartlepool had have stayed up he might well have gone there, he still might.
Anyone thinking Cook is a top end league 1 striker though needs to give their head a shake.

Its a difficult one, but i'd expect a manager with over 400 premiership games under his belt to fix the problem. And lets be honest, for all that experience under his belt we've never looked truly convincing at any time of

I personally think cook won’t be here next season he has done a fantastic job this season but I still think hughes doesn’t rate him and with him having a season to asses I can see a whole different kind of attacking options with pace and power

    Agree
When Wrexham were National lge they spent decent money on a mobile lge 1 top scorer Mullin and Palmer as well.

Now they are lge 2 they will be looking at somebody from lge 1 or above to drop down for serious money.

Dont think Cook is on their radar to be honest.

He tried Nevers/Costello at Northampton and Eisa at Crewe. All three were very poor. It was like playing with 10 men.
Pereira has been poor all season.

I really don't know what else he could have done.

As I said in another post, Wright leaving in Jan and Chapman getting injured at Swindon now seem like they were turning points.

No disagreement RT. The circumstances that led to our left side “conundrum”, which as it turned out started at game 1 of the season and other than Wright , lasted the entire season. Something that we could never bargain for. Chapmans injury, just when he started to show the form required of the position, WAS the last straw that broke the camels back.

Orient, Crewe, Swindon, Carlisle, twice didn’t have to “exploit” it, it was bloody obvious that we had no outlet. Ridehalgh’s crossing was poor yesterday, as it has been most of the season, so any team just put their normal right sided “ defensive “ players into midfield, knowing the grass , wasn’t covered on our left. No wonder we were heavily pressed in the middle of the park.! As a result our “diamond” was nullified, our “three” in the middle was nullified and to some extent Walker was nullified.

I can’t blame Hughes for that if we don’t have a player capable of playing the “Wright” position . He was left with tinkering with alternatives , which didn’t work..

The loss of Wright, turned out to be a HUGE , HUGH blow. The opponent knew it, and so do we. The two games in the play offs laid it all out for everyone to see.

I'm not sure Ridehalgh's crossing has been poor. He's had to cross the ball from 30 yards out as he's had nothing in front of him. Nobody to work the ball higher. A cross from 30 yards out is usually a 'fight' ball at best, unless you are Ben Barclay then you get the freedom of the penalty area.

Agree he has, but I always felt he was a trick or spell of form away from been the player we had last season. Very hot and cold. But when I compare him to Nevers, Eisa, Costelloe and Osadabe he’s the only one i felt had something in him to make the opposition think.

It’s been incomparable with last season, where he tended to whip in curling crosses, he’s not done it since his injury this season. Time for him to go.

No. There were no turning points were we simply were not good enough through the entire season. Even with Chapman and Wright we were never in the automatic positions. We simply got what we deserve. We aren't unique in having injuries and suspensions, Carlisle had Mellish missing for the playoffs, Stockport had Kyle Wooton out and Madden and Sarcevic first leg.
Hopefully Hughes and his recruitment team understand why we ultimately failed. He has next season to put it right.
