I would say he's maybe a better goal scorer than James H, but that's it. For me it's his job to score goals and he does it brilliantly at the moment and for that alone would walk into any team in our division but....and I can't believe I'm saying this.......I agree with @Fordy117 that the rest of his game isn't quite up there

 

You've gone down in my estimation with that comment, seriously what part of his game is lacking.

 

He's a very good goalscorer and also does his fair share of chasing and harrying defenders. But, for a big bloke, he's not a good target man. He's quite often outjumped by his marker when he has his back to goal, unlike when he's attacking the ball to score. And the ball often doesn't stick when played to him on the deck. He doesn't link play particularly well either.
But tbh, who cares? If he keeps banging them in like he currently is then he's a shoo-in to start every league game.

He never has been a target man. He is a goalscorer who has been fairly prolific in his career in the lower leagues.

 

Read MH post match analysis of him the other night about him being more than just a goalscorer.

I think I will side with a former top Premier league striker's view over yourself mate.

He's been a good goal scorer all his career that's what hes all about, he was beaten to death on Tuesday night by the Tranmere CD and he's expected to control the ball with his back to goal to bring others into play, I don't get your above comment it is much easier to head a ball as a defender with nothing to worry about but to win the ball and clear the danger, there not looking to lay it off his job is to defend the high ball.
Have a listen to our managers opinion of Andy Cook around 2:25 into the video, it wasn't just his goals tonight, but his general play as well, didn't get a lot of help from the officials, and he got battered getting his shirt torn.

 

Thank goodness your not our manager, or anything else to do with the football side of our club, stick to what you do best, whatever that is.

The guys embarrassing, even when Hughes and Sparks are looking like getting things right on and off the pitch he still bellyaches, were a midtable team according to him, although our present situation say differently and were not even 10 games into a new season.

Ahar fair point but you would never see James running the full length of the pitch and score like Cook did against Sutton away..... He has a little more than Co Op boy I think....

 

We were told as a team under bowyer or Adams we didn't play to Doyle or Vaughan's strengths, yet I saw little of those two doing much dirty work, Cooks will go through a lean patch ALL strikers do if Hughes believes he needs a rest and plays Oliver that's the time we see just what Cook offers to the team, unfortunately Oliver had the shirt and couldn't keep it, lets hope the next time he wears it he produces.

 

That was a great goal and I never expected him to get all the way there . I like them both but different players who contribute in different ways. I'll expect @NorthernMonkey to be along any minute now
