There's always going to be a risk that if your first choice target doesn't come off, you could also end up losing out on your second choice if they've ended up going elsewhere whilst target 'a' has been dicking you about. Thankfully on this occasion that didn't happen, possibly because the other offers Pattinson received would have meant him relocating his family to another part of the country so he was taking his time thinking it over.

Yes, i guess I am saying it would have been a big shame to miss out on this player because he wasnt a plan A.

And I am not sure why he wasnt a plan A. Id have taken him from the start over Williams.

Also, a lot of players have had a few pelters on here about refusing to relocate. Listening to Pattison explain why this was a perfect move for him was quite sobering. He has 2 young children in school and he didnt want to unsettle them.

You cant argue with that and if you do - then you probably dont have children of your own.

I agree with that. I'm not sure why he wasn't plan A either, unless we didn't think we had a chance of landing him, given his own remarks about wanting to play in league 1.

True. I suppose we should credit the club with having an alternative plan and acting swiftly.

Pattison just made more sense to me from the start.

He didn't say anything about them being in school just that he has two very young children, but I totally get why he wouldn't want to have to move. The hassle of moving house is stressful enough as it is, multiply that by 100 with 2 little ones in tow.

Location is really important at this level. A lot more than people think.

The higher levels can throw money at that situation to make it go away but at this level I am guessing the wages on offer are all much of a muchness.

Indeed and housing wise, you still get more bang for your buck up north (just about anyway).

I know where you are coming from , however perhaps by accident, I believe the second option could eventually be the best one by a long way?

Williams would never have a sell on value, as it’s unlikely he could improve, whereas Pattison could. Look at the age difference in a positive light, the capability to play two seasons on the trot versus part seasons and only 60 min games.

Our “Plan B “, as it were, is the far better 3 year option than Williams imho.

Personally I'd only play him wing back as cover, I was replying to someone giving examples of where he'd fit in next season. The rest of my points still stand

Yes I agree completely. I was a tad perplexed that we hadn't approached Pattison sooner.

Anyway - we got our man.

Yeah that's fair enough, he could cover multiple positions but unless he's happy to accept a wage offer befitting that role I'd much rather move him on and bring in someone else.

I was reading about Declan Rice - apparently his preferred destination is Arsenal due to location (mainly young family) They pay well so it is not an issue. But Man City could throw another £50k a week on top of his bottom line and be a drop in the ocean - coupled with guaranteed trophies its a tough one.

I guess house prices don't come into that when you are earning £250k a week.

Is that how much he is earning? A couple of years on that salary, you won’t need a second career.

He turned down £200k a week from West Ham so at an educated guess you would think at least £250k. More if it becomes an auction between Arsenal and City....
