You're all over the place. My point is really simple. I disagree that a manager should say 'we were really good' when they weren't. That's the original point I was responding to. For the record, I could find an article on every manager in the country criticising their players. Name a manager and I'll find you critical post match comments. Utterly bizarre to suggest a manager should never be critical of their teams performance. It happens all the time.

Again you are assuming Hughes and you share the same opinion.

Agree SB it looked like a double touch, it just infuriates me when the goalkeepers guess and throw themselves to one side, hoping for the best!
Lewis does it most times, in my opinion stand your ground as a lot of penalties go straight down the middle.
If the Accrington penalty taker had slipped with no double touch and Lewis had dived to his right (as he did) and the ball rolled into the other corner, the lad would have looked a right idiot!

Just my daily moan mate **so funny**so funny:thumbup:

What did you think of Saturday's performance? Out of 10?

As there was a double touch, if it had gone in, would the ref have ordered a re-take ? If so, we got lucky as some refs would have done that anyway.

what has my opinion got to do with Hughes opinion?

    for full context.

Hughes never said we were excellent yesterday nor did he say we were very good at crawley.

    https://www.bradfordcityafc.com/news/2023/august/hughes-pleased-with-improved-performance/

"The City boss explained how he thought tonight's performance was "a step up from what we have seen so far this season", but still thinks there are things his side can improve on."

the only person here though who thinks the performances was poor is you.

Some on here think those performances deserve public criticism of the players. I am one of those people.

I agree with Hughes appraisal of the game.

a double touch rules the penalty as a miss. Happened to Mitrovic last season so pen was ruled out even though it went in the onion bag.

It was disallowed before Lewis touches it.

I'm not sure if it's on the video but as it trickled towards goal the referee blew and waved his hands gesturing that it was no goal, even if it had gone in.

Lewis looked like he even asked the lino after the pen and the lino nodded so I'm assuming he confirmed the referee had 'disallowed' it too.

    John Coleman doesn't rate us...

“The one thing I do know is that Bradford aren’t going to win the Carabao Cup. We’re not going to win it either. We probably needed the financial aspect of it more than them because they’ve got more money than us with a bigger fanbase.”

“Both teams cancelled each other out in the first half and they haven’t laid a glove on us at all.”

“We hadn’t done much to them either, to be fair. We had one header straight at the keeper and they hadn’t had a shot at our goal."

“It was really scrappy. But then a ricochet allows their lad to go clean through and he finishes."

“We were a lot better second half and probably did enough to win the game. Their keeper made a couple of good saves."

“We never looked like losing the game. I was just disappointed we didn’t pass the ball a bit better."

As most of us only listened on the radio, it's hard to gauge if he's correct or not. Those at the game, what do you think?

He saved it. The ball was probably going the way that Lewis dived before it hit his other foot and trickled the other way.

I know he didn't. This whole line of conversation was started on the mistaken assumption that he had based on another poster's claim. We've already covered this. Post #246.

I don't understand why you are confused. I was responding to another poster's claim that it would be thick for Hughes not to hail the Crawley performance as very good.

To be fair to lewis, he saved three penalties last season "guessing and throwing himself to one side, hoping for the best".

Im not sure that is what goalkeepers do in reality, most have some sort of list either up their sleeve or on their drinks bottle listing preferred penalty takers and where they have put their last few penalties. Not a fail safe by any means, however some planning goes in and decisions not made on a whim

Apart from the bit about John Coleman , who cares for his opinion.
    Then yes would agree.

Oh dear , they were his opinions.

Lewis had a list on his water bottle. He was studying it before every penalty. Either that or it was excellent mind games.

He said Colin Doyle does all the research on the other keepers then relays it to Lewis.

I'm interested to see how it works when we have two up top for a couple of games. It feels like he wants to play two strikers and the three at the back is his compromise to do it. Don't mind seeing a game or two with two forwards before casting too much doubt.

I listened on the radio but the above seems fair to me. They were definitely building through the second half and it was clear that Whalley was a danger but he kept getting the ball. Wasn't a surprise when they equalised listening to the match. It also didn't really sound like we were going to score again.

He certainly did say that we were excellent tonight and very good at crawley.
He most certainly did say we were excellent last night and very good on Saturday. Why would I say it if he didn't say it.

Not bothered what he said we got through last night and had a disappointing first game against a team who might do better than some people think. Hughes has a lot to prove this season but we have to judge after at least ten games
