That is because he is a RWB. It matters and players at this lev very rarely can play with both feet. So unless the training staff have been equipped with magic wands in training then it is not going to happen. I think it says a lot about his character that he is prepared to play out of his comfort zone. Players are not traffic cones that you can switch around!

If we're serious about 3 at the back, it's plain as day we need 2 proper wing backs bringing in. And Kelly, Stubbs, Platt is a solid enough 3. But the backup is Taylor, Odusina, Hendrie, none of whom are good enough for a anything like a regular slot. And we're still missing some dynamism up top. All in all we're at least 3 or 4 players short of being a top 3 side.

Ogeyeke is perfect for the right wing back spot, could be why we've signed him. But then as I've always said football is position specific, you can't just throw a right back in at centre back or throw a left back in at left wing back. I'm doubting our recruitment strategy at the moment, we still have a few players on the books who either have no future here or who are apparently perfect to play in the new set up but aren't getting a game. The likes of Hendrie, Odusina, East need to be playing regular first team football as they clearly aren't going to get it here, I'd also say Pointon cos if he isn't going to be a regular on the bench he'd be better off getting game time elsewhere on loan. Still a fair bit of time for Hughes to get all this right, let's see what players are brought in.

 

That's what Hughes is getting well paid to do, Saturday wasn't great but at 11Vs 11 we were always in the game and last night we got the victory deservedly or not, I can see the lad Oyegoke starting against Colchester as it looks like his one match bad was served last night.

That for me is the key, the mental boost. Most of our team are still bearing the disappointment of losing in the play-offs. Whether they are conscious of it or not, there will be a dip in confidence - however minor - and a win will begin to help them shake that fully off. An element of our fan base are clearly not over the disappointment and are demonstrating zero patience at this very early stage of the season.

Progression in the cup will give a little boost to everyone. Fingers crossed we get a good second round tie to boost everyone that little bit further. The tonic we all really need is a good performance and win on Saturday. I will take the win first and foremost of course. It all helps build everyone's mood again.

Only brief highlights but it doesn't look like we created much.... and our defence still looks prone ro being run at. Smallwood done far too easily in midfield for one of their chances.

 

Nobody is talking about denigrating anyone. I'm talking about being critical of your team's performance in post match interviews. If you think that's poor management you'd better let Guardiola, Klopp, Arteta etc know because they don't have a problem being critical of their teams when they are below par.
