Car park at the back of the kop is an ideal place and it works well even in winter for Northampton, even down to the use of patio heaters and canopies. If they want to make it work, it's doable.

35 years going to games and as I recall, never experienced a fan zone or its type.
Definitely an area, I am interested in. An area modelled around the club, portraying its identity with fellow fans at affordable pricing, could only be good for engagement.

Lad and myself went to the Italian GP a couple of years back. It was like a tented City . The biggest problem was even that wasn’t big enough. Twice as busy as any football match I’ve been to and I’ve been to few.

And under the main stand lends perfectly to that. Like to food stalls at Camden Market. Every cuisine you could imagine. perfect. Just need to extend the concourse out of the Kop to allow that under there.

One spot, a bit small but could easily be covered, is the car park on South Parade behind the main stand.

Here you go. Perch benches mounted on the wall. Secured round tables in certain areas (not blocking the emergency exits). Then you could have a bar, perhaps where you had pre ordered and paid for drinks/food.

Exactly right! It’d be a money spinner. Get a few chants going ahead of the game. Great for the atmosphere

What did they do to occupy fans for say 2-3 hours before k/o?

Not sure it was that long before KO but there was an area for some meet and greet with players, kids areas with the mascots. SImple things that we don't really see at City.

Yes thanks for that...very interesting. One large issue we cannot meet , no matter what ...Weather. Summer rugby, what is stopping us having summer football?

I certainly wouldn’t be turning up at a football ground in winter trying to keep, say me and the kids (when they were young) warm before K/o. A fast track to not taking them most certainly.

Realistically there is only room under the main stand, the kop and midland road have little in the way of useable space although the bantams bar is crima'inally underused and more of an afterthought. The space under the main stand could be used , although how you would allow fans from other areas through the turnstiles to use i have no idea. Ideally the car park behind the main stand is the best space available as you don't have the above problem. A bit of ingenuity and you could have that area packed. But you'd lose the parking spaces.

Absolutely true. I’m sure SKY would put the mockers on it too. Too many summer sports already to add to the mix.

You're spot on, with a ground like Valley Parade with parking at a premium, there is no way any spaces would be given up for any other use than there original intention. As Kev says looks like the only available space is on Midland Road.

I'm pretty sure they shut to some extent on match days, theres a road block up just past the road behind the kop.

Whole discussion could be irrelevant with this Sh** shower of a government. They are racing to vaccinate in the vain hope that vaccination stops transmission of vaccine resistant strains in circulation which will likely cause a third wave. Signs across Europe and in the states not promising. Meanwhile we have a roadmap to a third wave.

Couple of years of this pandemic to go yet - history shows us that.

    Get used to ifollow folks.

At the risk of going off topic. Boris wanted to be in charge and is. Like trump he is a narcissist with excellent strategic acumen who used Brexit to get to be PM (remember his fence sitting surrounding his column in the telegraph - which version do I publish for the best personal outcome?).

The question you ask implies that there's no possible way to manage the situation whilst having the least impact on public health and the economy. There are many examples to prove that's just isn't true. I had a meeting this week with Thai colleagues who have no vaccination programme and also no current covid restrictions - admittedly they do have a military government.

The cynic might say that the mismanagement of the pandemic in the UK gives the perfect smokescreen for the fall out from Boris's Brexit facilitated power grab. After all how do you disentangle the effects of each. I'll wager more on that being the line from our government for the next few years than I would on city beating oldham this p.m.
