Two different dates for demolition. One says 1978 the other 1985. I'd go with the former. It also had a 300ft tower on site so I guess the photo was from the top of that not the cooling towers.

Nah it will be from a light aircraft/helicopter.

On this aerial photograph of VP taken in the 1930’s you can see some of the chimney’s none would be tall enough. The location of the shot is closer to the railway line.

Here is a later photograph. Although the ‘white’ chimney is tall, it is a lot further north and even then wouldn’t be high enough for that birds eye view.

I'd forgotten what a sight that power station was ! Reading up on Forster Sq, the two main buildings were John Poulson's work, which confirmed my long held belief that the man who destroyed Bradford (Stanley Wardley) was very much in the pocket of Poulson and his co-corruptor T Dan Smith.

If I could turn back time, I would happily shoot Wardley for the way his so called "master plan" destroyed our once beautiful city. A man whose actions ultimately lead to the destruction of Swan Arcade, mechanics Institute, Kirkgate Market, The Glass Toilets (what a bar that would have made in current times) and the German Church at the end of Thornton Road.

Thank god he died at the age of 64 before he could do anymore damage.

Agree they certainly ripped the heart of of this great City, Saturday mornings as a kid shopping with mum and seeing people stood over the metal grated ducts that blew warm air into Swan Arcade on a cold winters morning.

Well as you both know, when I am fit and get to a City game, I go for a pre match pint in one of the true heritage institutions left in Bradford.

Here you go. Never seen this one before. Looking from the Bradford End towards the Kop, part of the old Mai Stand on the left. Can you work out the year?

Very grainy newspaper photograph from the Kop looking towards the Bradford End. Probably below the half time score ‘shed’. Again wild guess as to the year?

I'd say 1978. I've lived in Bradford since 1980 and I don't remember the cooling tower or the tall white chimney.

Yes this one is apparently from 1963. Well spotted @StaffordBantam@StaffordBantam  @Tony Wilkinson@Tony Wilkinson & @Offcomedun@Offcomedun

The second was taken on 23/9/1972 in a match against Hartlepool. So you were a bit out with both your guesses @Bronco@Bronco .
The next question is were you at the game and if yes which part of the stadium were you in.

I found these in a Flickr stream, which has lots of old newspaper cuttings from Bradford in general which you may find interesting.
