Out of contract players

If we start next season with Platt, Kelly, Wadsworth and 2 more, better than Stubbs and Taylor I am happy enough. Tomkinson wont be returning and Odusina will surely go in some capacity so replace them 4 with 2 of the desired quality then thats sorted. A new LB/LWB a must too.

Smallwood can go and be off the books for me. McDonald too. Gilli, Pattison and 2 more with young Jeffreys making it 5 should be enough in the middle.

Walker, Pointon and Odour, plus a decent Chapman replacement again be suffice.

 

Well if a decent sum comes forward for Halliday might have to say yes and take it while we can.

We have an option on Bobby, but again he has a price. We cant be losing our best assets for free.

 

I agree with you on Tomkinson and think that is why Oyegoke is starting ahead of him. Wouldn't be surprised to see us signing him permanently in the summer.

 

Host of L1 clubs after him he says. Although Nixons track record or "scoops" is pretty awful over the last few seasons. Just this week he was confidently writing stories about Morecambes boss leaving to join Accrington because Accrington is a more attractive post being in L1.....

 

A lot of good sense in these comments on players but let's not forget Alexander is he the right manager to take us forward ??? I think not

 

Sorry but im not a fan - although recently improved. That said he is a utility player who can cover off 2 or 3 positions so I can see the attraction, plus he is young so could improve I guess.

 

I dont think he is. But looks like we stuck with him for now so need to give him a summer I guess....

 

Not pointing anything, just asking the question are we a better team/ would we be a better team if we didn't rely on the one dimensional football that playing through Cook brings.

I would offload Smallwood and Walker to free up budget.

Need a commanding CH and quality CAM e.g. Kemp, Keilor-Dunn. New striker depends on whether we can move Oliver and Smith.

Hope Sharpe stops the recent trend of handing out 3 year contracts to mediocre players.

 

Me neither, but I think the reason he's starting ahead of Tomkinson is because in terms of next year, one is more realistic than the other and GA is having a good look at him before making his mind up at the end of the season.

 

I wasn’t initially convinced. He looked a little careless and wasn’t clear where his strengths were.

Since returning agree he’s improved. Looks to have shown a temperament when on the ball much more, as well as being much more effective defensively. I’d be happy if he returned - the key part is a proper leader in the middle of midfield if we aren’t to see much change in defence vs current squad. Smallwood isn’t that person week in, week out.

On Smallwood, there were some shocking comments on social media in reply to the post he hit 100 games yesterday - criticism gone too far.

 

Just seen a screenshot, it's Harry Ibbitson he's talking about. A host of Premier league sides interested in him apparently.....

 

Twitter users aren’t the most intelligent sadly, especially not ones who regularly comment on football clubs. While he’s not been the best it’s blown out of proportion mainly because he’s on set pieces, it was the clubs job to recruit a specialised set piece taker and it failed miserably, he doesn’t hold the club at gun point to take them. Just as him and Gilliead don’t hold the club at gun point to have them play together.

It’s poor how often fans scapegoat individuals and take it too far, I’m sure he’d be more than fine in a 3 man midfield with runners around him similar to what he’s had in the past. As usual our recruitment throws players under the bus and fans lap it up, no wonder players do better elsewhere and are glad to be out of here.

Not just picking on you but how many managers have we had on paper that look like the right fit only for it to go badly wrong yet again ????
Lets not forget that GA is dealing with a squad that on the whole really are poor this group would drag even the best down

 

Hardly a scoop for Nixon, it's common knowledge clubs have been looking at him.

 

Im been realistic, he aint going anywhere this sunmer......so its a futile conversation.

 

Needs to be brought to the bench for the last few games, bring the asking price up.

 

I just if the decision was gonna have been made it would have been done by now .........honestly of they dont fancy him as manager get rid now not 10 games into the next season and we are down the same route again

I have to agree, I'm no Smallwood fan and everyone is entitled to an opinion but there are some total knobs on here.
