I think we need to see what part he has to play in all this. If he comes in as an advisor to Sparks on a short-term basis, then I'll be mightily disappointed. If this is a long term appointment, Rupp has a ready made replacement if things prove successful. It could also signal the start of a process to sell the club. With Sharpe having more experience overall, we could see Sparks take a back seat (similar to Rupp) and watch from the sidelines or to concentrate on commercial activities. Overall its a step in the right direction, but let's see if his proposals are fully backed.

From what people have said in recent months about Ryan Sparks needing help with the football side this sounds like exactly what David Sharpe is here for. Hopefully this will mean that Ryan can focus more on the commercial side of the club and keep improving that the way he has and David can make the improvements needed in the senior and academy set up.

Probably totally unrelated but Robbie Bloodworth (first team performance analyst and player welfare officer) has left the club to join Sheffield Wednesday so possibly a lucky opening for David Sharpe to bring in someone he trusts as an analyst.

I hope he does well but 5 months of experience in this particular role is a joke

I think this could be a shrewd appointment, at a time we are in desperate need and thankfully it’s before the summer window.

Good luck to the lad I hope he’s a success, there are no guarantees but it was painfully obvious for a long time we needed more people in the footballing department. Waxing lyrical about little commercial deals will only get you so far as a football club.

Disappointing that it is not someone who was good at doing something else at the club years ago, hopefully this guy is related to Lee Sharpe as he "knows the club" so should be able to pass that knowledge on and be successful.

Good appointment. Only took him 5 months at Mansfield before he was the CEO so let’s hope Sparks is gone by the summer

Women want stability, both financially and relationship wise.
They don't want good looking bird magnets they can't trust, that's why I struggle.

He's not the usual dinosaur associated with our club.
Fresh ideas and approach just what we need.
I agree with your sentiment Hope he does well in fact more than well.

Sounds like its a mix of DOF/Sporting Director role, from reading on his Mansfield spell it looks like he was DOF for a few months then promoted to CEO but still did the DOF roles and duties. Good luck to him!

Just looking over his first window in charge at Mansfield, they weren't shy of swinging the axe with 17 players either released or mutually terminated (paid off) in his first season. There's a lot of guys who he brought in in 2020 & 2021 who are still there now and first teamers. If they go up and a few don't get renewed as they don't think they can make the jump, I wouldn't be surprised to see us be linked to a few. From his permanent signings, look to be experienced heads more often than not. Although his loans seem to be up and down. First season, loaned named players like Stephen Quinn and Lapslie who have been about this level a while. Then the season after brought in Bishop in goal from Man United on loan and Matty Longstaff who did really well there with 8 goal involvements in 16 games. Final season, again more lads who had been around the block before and some loans from Forest, looks like they loan from Forest every season so probably some type of feeder club deal.

Ryan has been looking to make this appointment for some time…sure thing.
Young but with reasonable experience at this level and above. With the family he’s from hopefully got some decent business sense too

Does he report into Ryan or into Stefan? Who does GA now report into?

Bit of clarity would be helpful.

Good luck to the chap. Hope he can bring some organisation to the football side of things.

I wonder who has overall responsibility for 'football' at VP which most regard as the single most important aspect at VP? We haven't appointed a new Director of Football with that overall responsibilty. We've appointed a Head of Football Operations who is described as working 'alongside' the First Team Manager, the Head of Recruitment and the Head of Academy which suggests to me they are all on a similar footing. Does that man no single person has overall responsibility for 'football' at VP or does it all still come back to the CEO?

I hope @SteveC@SteveC has it right above!

Not sure we need to know that do we?

As long as those at the club know....
