Firstly, we don’t know if the position hinted by Rupp is indeed a DOF or, for example, other footballing based positions such as analysts, scouts, sport and fitness specialists. It could be DOF plus more - he doesn’t mention the specifics.

DOF seems the obvious and in that case, I’m torn. One consistent narrative I’ve know in my 35+ years supporting City is understanding what it means to play for the club. Now, we’re certainly not exclusive in this mindset, but at L.2 level where we have what from the outside looks like a ‘big club’, I do believe it takes a certain time of manager/player/footballing staff to understand this. Therefore going with a DOF who does, with past connections to the club or not, seems as though it’s a must for the role.

So, is Jewell a decent candidate? Yes.
Would I like to think we will be more dilligent in our approach? Yes.
Do I think we will? No.
Why? Cause the current owner and CEO don’t have the credentials (IMO) to do so.

Therefore I accept that this is the start of a long journey, but a journey which is finally on the right track. If we have to start building and learning from the bottom (that’s not directed to Jewell BTW) then fine - we can build from there. First things first, get the right clientele into the club, get out of this bloody basement division, and keep progressing from there.

But one last thing, please don’t bankrupt us! Seeing recently reported numbers from Doncaster is terrifying!

Where is Aidy Boothroyd these days ? Bradford lad who has been everywhere over the years. The experience Sparks needs along side of him if he’s staying.

We need someone fresh with new ideas and not have any existing relationships. We need someone to push back and implement new ideas and strategies not someone who is just a puppet of a puppet.

As long as Sparkes the snake oil peddler is in any kind of role where he has even the slightest input to anything football related is flawed before it starts.

I don’t think we need a DOF if we had a CEO with experience and knowledge of running a club and business

Gent needs to go, appalling recruitment and has about as many key contacts as Archie Christie.

I understand to a certain extent why you wouldn't want an ex player and manager who was held in high esteem by the fans.

Another point you raise is you prefer someone who knows the game, particularly league 1 and 2, well Jewell has experience of being DOF at Swindon with Richie Wellens the manager. Pretty sure they did a good job?

Sorry Kev but not for me.

I agree with the single position, rather than 2 people taking a wage but Warnock is a motivator not a thinker and he'd need to be in that dressing room getting them going rather than planning, targeting and bringing in players but not having an input on match days.

Likewise. Warnock has never been a DoF or Head of Recruitment. And he's 75. Far too risky.

I totally understand where you are coming from with Jewell.

    Not sure about Wellens.

Failed at Oldham, although they were in a downward decline.

Did well at Swindon…..but left them mysteriously?

Salford. Again a slightly mysterious departure. Obviously cup victory but league performance not particularly exciting.

    Doncaster. Well he bombed there.

Leyton Orient. Done very well promotion and a solid mid table performance so far in League One.

He seems secure in his position, two years in the life of a manager is quite a long time.

Why would he want to leave a moderately successful League One team and drop down to a turbulent League Two team, with a record of sacking managers?

You would hope that if by any chance Jewell is appointed as a DoF here, that he would be able to identify a selection of managers and not just Wellens, even though he has worked with him before. As you say, it is very unlikely that Wellens would be interested in moving here at the moment. I am not averse to Jewell as a DoF, at least he understands City through and through.

As l said earlier, l just don’t want it to bomb and then people start calling Paul.

Sometimes it is good to be left with positive memories, rather than running the risk of his legacy being tarnished.

I doubt it will be Jagger for a few reasons but the biggest was that he and Whellans were lined up for the City job before MH sent his email. That was told to me by an independent sports reporter who is well connected in the game. Could be a load of old tosh but if not cannot see Jagger working under Sparks at all.

Well I hope nobody is working under him tbh. I would prefer their roles are equal or that DOF has the last word.

There's no way Warnock would take a job that meant to had to sit in the background, he craves the attention too much. The awful job he did at Aberdeen should be a signal to the football world that it's time to move on from him and send him to the retirement home. He's spent nearly all of the last 10 years with short term jobs with 5 of his 7 jobs in that time lasting less than 25 games.

Only had 1 job since leaving the England U21 job in 2021. He was manager of Jamshedpur in the Indian Super League finishing 2nd bottom.
