Jamie Walker is class and as soon as he got injured we dropped off a cliff. Important part of the team, great attitude and puts everything on the line.

We are missing 25 goals a season to be a strong promotion team. Those goals need to be shared around the team outside of cook. we don’t have subs coming on and scoring either. More midfield creativity. Smallwood McDonald gilleard chapman odour walker haven’t provided enough goals. Good sides beat up teams. 3 and 4 nil. If we win it’s by the odd goal. Low margins. Meaning losing a goal costs lots of points. Good sides get 2 in front and dominate. We do neither.

It's a tricky one because although it's not good that he gets injured far too often, to avoid that, he'd have to completely change the way he plays and if he did that he wouldn't be half the player he is.

His last injury was a break though. You can't legislate for a bad tackle.

We have a one year option on both. They don’t need new contracts.

Does the contract extension option have to match his current deal or can it be re-negotiated?
£4000 a week (allegedly) puts him in the highest pay bracket in the whole division so obviously we need to see value for money.

My big worry around Walker, is we also have Pattinson contracted for next season.
Both players pick up regular injuries for one reason or another.
If the budget is reduced due to lack of season ticket renewals, can we afford to carry two similar players, who could miss large parts of the season.
Keep one with a younger back up.

I agree we should offer him a contract but the implications of a drop in season ticket numbers might make that impossible.

A broken foot, a broken leg and a fractured skull in the last two seasons against Doncaster and then McCann has the cheek to moan about injuries!
    (Not all Walker of course)

Completely different players and, fitness issues aside, we need both in the team.

Odour would be the first out of the o-door for me. He's nowhere near Chapman's level and most would agree that we will probably look to move him on so it wouldn't make any sense whatsoever to try and keep Odour.

If Walker is on £4,000 per week then we have to make a sound business decision on him, is he fit enough to play at least 35 games, is he worth what is likely to be at least 10% of of player budget.

I've seen nothing that says he is the one player that can make enough of a difference to turn this awful team around, it comes down to him or Pattison. We can't make a place for both without being too lightweight.

if we take up the option on the current deal then yes it just extends the current deal by a year.

not sure if we can turn the option down and then offer less?

Maybe dude but he has something. Now if we are getting results and playing ok you can afford a luxury player. He does seem to have got better out wide. Opinions I suppose. We are crap that is a fact.

I would not say they are completely different players.
Both attacking midfielders, both unavailable for large parts of the season.
I just do not think we can carry both, especially as one is already under contract and the other on £4000 per week apparently.
Does the option with Walker have a built in salary increase- 5% is another £200 per week, surely he must be one of the highest paid players at the club.
