That’s got to be City v Wimbledon at Odsal Dave. Match eventually abandoned.

There's a rumour caddick bought the odsal lease as he apparently owns land around the stadium

Heard stories of a 7milllion upgrade but can't see that happening

On the issue of the former quarry beneath the pitch does anyone have definitive evidence of this? I've looked on numerous maps of the area in the 19th century and can't find any reference to one ever being there.

According to David Pendleton's 'Paraders' book the Midland Railway purchased the land in 1872 (as part of a wider purchase of land) and then, when it was established that the 'Valley Parade' land was not required for railway use "it was let to various tenants and as a result a quite significant amount of quarrying took place".

No neither can I. £7 million wouldn't touch the sides up there.Shame because for any sporting future of this city, it could really do with a stadium fit for the next generation of sporting fans. Odsal should be bulldozed, Horsfall isn't really anything and Valley Parade is adequate (bar the pitch) but is ageing and situated in an awful place.

Exactly, don’t think it was ever a quarry, more a dump for clinker etc from mill boilers but there was the old well next to Holywell Ash

This map, from 1852, shows that, at that time, quarrying was taking place all around the site.

    I'm sure that's right!

Maybe the club could convince your local council to apply for some funding from the Govt's Levelling Up Fund? If that well known area of urban deprivation, high unemployment and poor public services, Newark, can be successful and receive £45mill from two different funds, so can Bradford. Mind you, the fact that the constituency MP for Newark was also a Govt minister may have helped a little. That's Robert Jenrick whose middle name is also an anagram of his constituency's name ;)

Totally agree and again something I believe is a systemic view held by people at the club that we are all demented seals and no way can we challenge the status quo.

Typical can’t be done so stop asking mantra. Funny enough was one of my questions to the BBC forum that was not selected.

Yep. I was there - wasn’t it a night game? Horrible weather where the water came across from the racetrack touchline towards the centre of the pitch.

When I was a kid there actually was a spring and stream underneath the ground, round about the halfway line. It filled a once mill reservoir that was located between the railway and the Midland Rd .

We used to get millions of tadpoles from the stream . It can be seen in a photo I once posted .

The worst part is that each postponement will likely cost the club in excess of 5 figures.

    - Wages of staff who have turned up
    - All the catering which will have needed to be paid for
    - Compensation to the away team i.e travel/hotel expenses and a portion of gate receipts (EFL Regulation 29)
    - Loss of ticket sales via refunds / lower attendance for the midweek re-arranged game

He’s not wrong though Steve. No matter how much we protest or dislike facts. A solution has to be found, but stopping it raining isn’t one, and I’ll tell you what , the writing is on the wall now, it will get worse as the planet warms. Mitigation measures are the only answer . It’s a pretty endless list of very expensive solutions.
I’ve been looking at the Matchsaver covers as highlighted by Rod. They are waterproof yes, yet they provide no provision for water removal . Their advertising is vague to say the least. They mention

    Germination
Matchsaver permeable pitch covers provide excellent germination properties whilst providing frost protection when waterlogging is not an issue. The germination properties of the covers have significantly improved the condition of grass on many of our customer’s sports fields.

The “ Air “ aspect of the rollers is merely a means of transporting the covers on across the pitch , ie a blown up sausage tube.

8 seperate sheets are required to cover a pitch and they do appear to be the same type of thing used at VP. There doesn’t appear to be a way of fixing the strips together to provide a completely waterproof seal. So water will run underneath the sheets . They don’t apoear to be what we are looking for as far as rain is concerned. Frost protection yes , snow protection yes shower protection yes, heavy rain it appears sadly not to be the answer.

    It’s all here
