This season can't argue but need to see if he can sustain his form like Lewis didn't

Of course this season. Last season is done and dusted and I think (which I said several times before he left) he was a one season wonder. His form was atrocious and the mind boggles how we got a fee for him!

Unlike Lewis,Walker is a seasoned pro,no reason to think he is a one season wonder, which it looks, sadly, that Lewis might have been.

I think a move to a team that looked destined to be relegated even before he signed wasn't the best move career wise for a keeper whose form had dropped off a cliff. Yes he's earning more but from a playing point of view, the last thing he needed was to be thrown into a team fighting for their lives as the pressure will have been on him from the off. Maybe he'll pull things round and have a blinding season in league 2 next year but I'm not convinced he will.

A few who commented on our new keeper in this thread really need to give their heads a shake, talk about judging a player before he's kicked a ball in anger..................you know who you are.

Isn't that what everyone is doing now by suggesting he's better than Lewis Street what, half a dozen games?

    Knee jerk works both ways.

If were comparing him with the Harry Lewis of last season yes but read some of the earlier posts, he's 5/6 games in and as yet not been responsible for letting a soft goal in, I'm not sure saying he's performing better than Lewis is knee jerk, fact I'd say ?.
And my post wasn't necessarily about his keeping many were happy to tell us it was a typical Bradford City move fee for Harry and then go for a free agent. well that free agent isn't doing to badly as yet.

Yes, that post and opinion is completely knee jerk. You simply can't form any sort of comparison if he's only played 5 games. It's just daft.

If people want to praise him then praise him, I'm just not sure why people need to mention Lewis when doing it.

Because they were comparing him with our previous keeper before he'd played a game, surely you understand that ?.

Of course, I'm just pointing out the irony and hypocrisy of claiming it's only those posts you didn't agree with that were knee jerk.

@Bronco@Bronco i don’t think anybody was criticising Sam before a ball was kicked. We were criticising yet another example of the lack of ambition we showed in signing a cheap journeyman in his 30s after selling our first team keeper for a 6 figure sum.

One or two of these plucky dice rolls might pay off but the overall strategy is still sh*t, regardless of Walker keeping a clean sheet or two in his first few games

Think we got the better keeper after the Carlisle deal

Having seen (and heard at first hand) some of the comments from Carlisle way, I tend to agree. A few I know in that area think they were conned, by the way they're not too impressed with the other big signing, Armstrong from Harrogate either.

Your first sentence is absolutely bang on the money. Clearly he went for an improved salary package, nobody blames him for that , but career wise, on the arse end of a beating every week ain’t going to do anyone’s confidence any good. The game at Wrexham will give Walker a bucketload of confidence. Compare him to the pound shop equivalent of Man U’s keeper at Wrexham? I thought he was dodgy within 10 mins of the start.

Of course you criticising Walker with the sort of reply above, remember when the club brought Harry Lewis in that was exactly the same situation freeby yet he had a storming first season, it just gets a little boring at times.

I agree yes he will let a soft goal in all keepers do but in the few games he's played he commands his box far better that Harry Lewis, again at 6'6" I'd expect him to do but Harry was no slouch at 6'3" still 15 games to go but from what I've seen I'm more than happy free agent or not.

Thought the lad was excellent on Saturday, playing 8 defensive players under a very negative manager has helped him have little to do so far. But he faced a number of challenges on Saturday and stood up to them well, his commanding of the box impressed me a lot against a very physical team who as we know by their manager will be experts and crossing and set pieces.

It doesn’t really detract from the criticism of club club for yet again yo-yoing on their supposed transfer policy but when you have a weak leader then he’ll chop and change depending who’s in charge.

Keepers tend to improve ,as they get older, the ones that don't find themselves as permanent no 2's or down the football pyramid.
If a goalie makes a mistake it is usually results in a goal , so is highlighted , out field players get chances to make up for mistakes Cookie on Saturday.
Lewis had a good season last year, but has been very poor this, with several errors for us and i am sure his confidence must be rock bottom, especially with a string of defeats at Carlisle.
We cashed in , and that is currently looking like a good move from the club and Walker looks a more than adequate replacement, who at 30 has a few good years left in him.
I wish Lewis all the best for the future and look forward to seeing him on his return to VP next season.
We have moved on and at the moment look better for it.
I think Doyle will stand down at the end of the season and Walker could find himself playing second fiddle here.

I think he's saying he's similar to Onana.
