I watched the Newport v Wrexham game on Sat.and our central defenders are every bit as good,if not better than those at Wrexham,yet Wrexham seem certs for promotion.I would think that our problems are in other areas of the team.

 

Ar the moment we have got Wright and Young and Lewis has been bang average this season so that is an improvement

 

Fair enough, but I dont see anyone in the squad as good as Crichlow was so for me we are weaker in that area and it needs addressing given we are playing 3 at centre back.

Tomkinson, Kelly, Platt and Stubbs are 'ok' but lots of limitations in their game - you get that with most L2 CBs I suppose but Stubbs has no pace and Platt has a 50p head and his distribution is shocking. Kelly is just average, Tomkinson is hit and miss and Taylor...urghh.

 

That's not true Serg.

Platt and Stubbs started together from the end of February right through until 10th April during which time they helped keep 5 clean sheets in 8 matches and only conceded 5 during those games.

In fact, had it not been for Platts red card in the final minute at Crawley I'm fairly sure that partnership would have continued right though for the rest of the season.

 

Oliver and Osedebe weren't playing so unless there's a new rule where we can field 13 players can you explain again how we've improved?

 

Getting in someone who on paper is probably worse that Lewis is an improvement because Lewis has been "bang average"?

Wright and Young are improvements to the team/squad. I cant understand why you are denying this.

Both will be starting games.

The biggest problem we’ve had for a number of years is putting the ball in the net. We’ve also neglected the key position of midfield for a while and until we get some real quality in there, I feel we’ll struggle to progress.

 

As much as I want Young to stay, I think it is too early to have him down as an improvement when he might not even be here.

 

I don't believe Young will play for a start, perhaps I'm wrong but either way, certainly not until February at the earliest.

Wright hasn't played much in 12 months and some of you are proclaiming him as the second coming! He wasn't decent last time out but he'll probably take a month to 6 weeks to get anywhere near match sharp by which point we're in March and the season is probably done anyway.

At this point I'd have rather just given Chapman, Pointon or Wilson a run to see if any of our own players can make the grade in GA's set up.

 

That was definitely his weakest point but he had plenty of strengths too and with time I think he'll definitely have a better career than both of them.

 

That’s your words the keeper situation has yet to be proven but the two up front are improvements unless Young moves we are stronger

 

It is not for you to determine who is right and wrong! You cant just state 'Park is right' as you did in a previous post, it is only your opinion.
In judging are we so far in a better position the key for me is does it improve the team who are likely to play - keeper position is hard to say at this stage, Wright yes if we get the previous player, Young we may never see him in a City shirt again. Trimming some of the fringe players is essential but that in itself doesn't improve the quality of our likely starters

 

Young aint starting games until the transfer window is over. He won't be starting at all if we sell him before that. Unfortunately, I think Wright will be thrown in the deep end, fit or not. He's too much of a marquee signing to leave on the bench, especially when we might have sold Young and not brought in a suitable replacement. Restless natives and all that.

 

Thats fair but as things stand, he is our player and will remain until he isnt.

Our transfer business so far has improved the quality of the squad IMO.

 

Wasnt decent last time out? You must be in the minority there!!!

Chapman has been with us for 18 months - he has been an underwhelming signing and I dont see that changing anytime soon

 

I think we have been unfortunate because Walker and Pattison both seem to know where the net is and we miss both dearly.

 

I'm happy with us not adding anyone else if we can get rid of a bit more deadwood. This allows GA the ability to fully rebuild in a window he can get better value. If we can lose Oliver for good in the summer, and either now or then shift on McDonald, Derbyshire, Chapman, Ridehalgh (summer), and get money for Young, then we have a chance to really rebuild for the first time in ages.

The January window is a farce and we never end up with real quality, or haven't since we signed Wyke.

Whilst this season isn't dead, it will be in 3 or 4 weeks, and it looks like Young isn't going to play for us again, so let's accept that instead of shifting the deckchairs on the Titanic again for god knows how many years on the trot, we can pick up the 16 points needed to stay safe and really go for it in June.
