I'm not sure how anyone can be happy with our striking options. Derbyshire is useless and Smith is useless unless he's playing in the Pizza cup, which leaves Cook and Young as the only capable strikers. A long ball manager like Alexander can't have only one target man in the squad. If Cook gets injured, what's he going to do? Hoof it to Young?

 

Of course not, you play to your strengths.

From the look of things there is only 1 shirt available for that central striker role so for me, Cook, Young, Smith are pretty much as good as you will get in L2 as a trio.

 

I wouldn't be unhappy with those four we need Jake if and when selected he can contribute by goals.

Think it depends on why setup we use. Last month or so we've dipped between 2 strikers and 1 attacking support or 2 supports with 1 striker. If we go with 1 striker, I think he'll stick with what we have. If he wants to go to 2 up top, he might get a youth big striker on loan from higher up.

I wouldn't bring another in unless we can ship out Derbyshire. If Cook is the forward, you have Young, Wright, Chapman, Walker, Odour, Pointon who can support, or if it's two up top, Cook and Young but Wright can also play up top as he did briefly for us, Smith and Derbyshire back ups. Enough for the season for me. Worry is an out and put replacement for Cooks style of play.

 

With ten days of the window left I would be setting a deadline for the sale of Young probably 7 days giving us time to strengthen with the money

 

Leave it till the last 3 days, with an obvious fee in our pocket, and put overselves over a barrel for any players we want who've either been unwanted, or who are untested, or who we'll have to pay over the odds for?

This squad is at least 5 or 6 quality players short of being promotion material.

I think the club has largely given up this season.

 

Of those mentioned above, I expect Chapman, Derbyshire and Young to leave.
A couple more probably loaned out.
But we’ll know for sure that the lunatics have taken over the asylum if we accept a speculative bid for Cook on deadline day. That would be a really City thing to do.

 

I think if Young is sold at this point onward, the money is going to be saved for the summer. The squad realistically needs at least 4 maybe 5 first team upgrades to consistently challenge this season, which will cost far more than Young will bring in.

We'll get a striker on loan from up the pyramid to cover until the end of the season and have the annual summer rebuild.

 

To maximise Youngs price we must sell on deadline day. Probably get in a loan as replacement.

 

Agreed but I think Alexander and (definitely) Sparks think this squad is good enough to go up. It's frightening that they can't see it.

 

The money from any sale won't be reinvested so it doesn't matter when he's sold.

 

You will never know , but let’s say it suits a narrative?

 

If Walker and Pattison were fit we would have a decent (ish) first 11. As it stands we are 2/3 decent first teamers from being a squad capable of getting promotion. Adding Wright into the equation does strengthen us somewhat but I feel we are still weak across the middle and LWB.

 

I don't think Alexander does, he's just talking the talk. He knows it's no where near good enough, and if he has any sense, will save the dosh for the summer.

 

Agree, Chapman has been a real disappointment for me. He has the ability but his end product is woeful.

 

2 or 3 to be capable of winning the league, but promotion I think we should be capable with what we have. Some absolute shite up there. Not saying we will for one minute but our first 11 on paper is up there...

Like the Harry Lewis money fook me you really have got faith in this lot havent you at best it will be another loan signing and the money will go to bridge the silly contracts we have given out

 

I think deep down they both know the limitations of the squad due to the hapless Hughes, Sparks has alluded to it interview. Alexander wouldn't admit it, he's not gonna hang them out to dry like that.
