V Notts forest in the league Cup 1986. 16,000 crowd, I reckon it was nearer 25,000

 

I think that was the reason why they went to a league standard of what figure to announce. I suppose it could still be fiddled but much harder not to get caught by either football authorities or taxman

 

Good question . How has giving the inflated untrue figure benefitted the club? Answers on a postcard.

 

When it was cash it could be under reported to gain extra cash and save on tax. Now the staduim is cashless with a record of all sales it is very difficult and not worth the risk

 

You love a nonsense argument eh park? I don't think anyone is saying it would benefit the club, but people don't like being lied to. If they say 16,500 tickets sold fair enough, but the wording is "attendance".

 

And every other club does the same, this isn't unique to City. As i think someone has already posted if the actual number of spectators in VP is so important to you you'll just have to submit an FOI to the club.

 

It's not important to me so I don't have to do anything, but I can see why it would wind people up. People feel like they are being taken for mugs at the moment and this doesn't help.

 

I don't think people are asking to change anything. It just feels like another way the club makes fans feel like idiots. You know this though and love winding people up.

 

So would it make those people that feel like they are being taken for mugs, not you obviously as you have said it isn't important to you, if the club broke the rules and possibly get in trouble all over a word even though they perfectly understand what is meant

 

How would the club get "in trouble" for stating an attendance? It honestly doesn't matter, but it's laughable when they announce a daft attendance figure.

 

What's your best guess on actual number of attending today ?

I reckon under 10,000

 

Someone said the league have defined the official attendance as total number of tickets sold and complimentary tickets given so if the club started giving a different figure then they would be breaking the rules

You are right, it was Dennis who stated that the EFL require a figure of all tickets sold including season tickets, and he is a trusted source. But could we send them that figure and announce the actual number over the tannoy? Anyway, I agree it's somewhat irrelevant and I'm sure the club would rather us be talking about attendance figures rather than the state we find ourselves in.

 

Who knows but every club in the country seem to do it the same way so my only thought is that they have to. They have to provide exact figures of numbers in the ground to the safety teams but that will include staff as well

 

Why, who cares as long as the “ attendees” have paid. Ridiculous debate in all honesty, when we don’t report “how many are there“ to the taxman . He’s not interested!
