One of my favourite City goals of all time that Palin goal against Everton. One of my favourite players too

I heard he scoured europe with a video of “that “ goal trying to get a gig elsewhere later on?! It was a great goal though.

I'm also stunned by people's lack of appreciation about performance. The hullabaloo on here after the Colchester and Crewe games was phenomenal. It was clear that we were going to struggle after watching those performances but you had posters saying 'it doesn't matter we won and that's all that counts'. I'm not even looking for entertainment. I just want performances indicative of a side who might go up. So far, we haven't had a single one apart from maybe Mansfield.

'It's a wonderful goal on a wonderful night for Bradford City'. I think it was Martin Tyler with those immortal words.

That Everton game was my first proper memory. My formative years were 89 - 99. What a time to be growing up watching City. Unreal!

Hmmm, relegation in 1990 followed by 2 years of Docherty were unreal!
Wasn’t until 1996 did that decade get good.

We were NEVER bottom tier though.
Hovering around the play off places under Stapleton in what now is League 1.
Beating Premier League Norwich in the League Cup.
Beating Premier League Forest in the cup.
Richmond taking over and pumping in thousands for the 94-95 season to a team that Lennie Lawrence ruined and Kammy fine tuned to take us up to what is now the Championship.
I would give anything to have that excitement and level of football right now compared to the mundane dross of not scoring goals, no investment, tinpot teams like Harrogate and Forest Green.
I would give it all to be beating Premier League teams in the cup and fighting for promotion to the second tier.

Very true, the 1990's were very kind to us.

Surely the 2020's must have some positives for our club ;) I miss the days when we had to win at Hull to secure our playoff place and then going to Blackpool 2 nil down from the first leg and winning 3 nil and then the win at Wembley, Happy days.

True but the first few years only made the second part of the decade sweeter. Our rise from 96 onwards was astonishing and those years in the old div 3 gave me some grounding.

That Everton game was fantastic, Stuart’s first time back at VP since being sold, if I remember, he came on as a sub and hit the post.
However could you imagine the negativity had social media existed back then!
We’d still be in meltdown about Tordoff not investing in the “nearly” team, and the abuse Smallwood gets today would pale into insignificance compared to the pelters we’d have been aiming at Ian Banks, Mark Leonard was never quite good enough and whilst i loved Palin he only ever showed up when he felt like it! Always frustrated me that if he’d applied himself he could have gone on to great things.
We didn’t appreciate quite what we had back then in the period between the fire and Geoffrey arriving. We never dropped to the bottom tier no matter how bad the football and we were always capable of upsetting the odds against bigger opponents.

I can't quite believe that Palin only ever played 160 league matches. On his day he was quality and should have had a much better career, even if it were at league one level.

The goal against Boro in the league in the play off season was outstanding - he was gifted!

My brother was his YTS Apprentice back in those days, cleaning his boots, getting training kit out etc.. Palin prided himself on being the biggest tipper at the club come Christmas time!! Much to my brother's liking!!!!
