For some reason I celebrated that win long and hard, great to see a time-wasting team get their comeuppance.
I was hoarse all evening, fantastic.

It won’t work, otherwise why did the EFL / Prem insist on the 4th official, to just to hold up a substitute board. Really? Officially it was to support the referees. Are you suggesting we now give referees even more work . There is nothing wrong with offloading responsibility to the fourth official thus let the ref concentrate on the rules of the game , of which there are now even more?

How am I giving referees more work? They currently manage the time perfectly well within the guidelines and all that is changing is the guidelines for what to add time on for.

I don't understand why there isn't a minimum time out of play in football. It could work the same as tennis. The team awarded the restart, whether it be goal kick, throw in, corner etc have an allowance of say 15 seconds to restart the game or the decision is reversed ie. Throw in goes to the other side, corner becomes a goal kick etc. For me it's a much more workable option than a stopwatch.

No they are adding more opportunity to add time on, there wasn’t a rule for certain add ons , there is now. Hence more opportunity, more work, more time, more officiating. More bookings more potential for sending off. There is nothing wrong with permitting the fourth official to take some of the additional timekeeping responsibilities. I don’t see the difficulty?

No they don’t , that’s the issue, it’s currently open to interpretation in some instances. Now the opportunity to misinterpret have gone. The rule becomes black or white not a shady bit in between.

I know the Womens game has a long long way to go before it’s as popular and financially lucrative as the men’s game but watching the World Cup is refreshing because none of the time wasting and darks arts exist…..currently.
You don’t see players rolling round like they’ve been shot.
They don’t fall over wanting a free kick for the lightest touch.
The pace of the game seems more fluent with faster build ups, moving the ball around quickly.

Time ‘keeping’, is that what time wasting is called now? The referees were woefully inept at VP last season when opposition teams came to time waste from the first minute. If the refs actually applied the laws of the game then we would have seen several red cards to opposition players across the season, especially to goalkeepers, some who should have been getting 3 or 4 yellows a game for their time wasting.

These new rules should work in our favour, but our main problem last season was we were too s**t to break teams down, meaning they had something to hang on to and reason to try and frustrate us. Just go all out attack at home and scare these shi**y nobody clubs like Sutton to death. They aren’t gonna time waste when they’re 2 goals down

Timekeepers work really well in Rugby League. Frees referees to referee. Stops blatant time wasting, referee just gives signal to stop the clock. Amount of time ball in play is reducing year on year. Am I missing something? Thought we should have had this for a while.

I've only seen part of one game, the China game today and after they had their penalty there was plenty of falling over, time wasting etc to try and see the end of the game out

Don't know if anyone caught Hughes interview last night, but he said they had their pre season meeting with the officials yesterday. Usually they are a half hour max meeting that's a tick box exercise with a short speech over new rule interpretations.... this seasons new rules meeting took and hour and a half! Going to be some long long games and dodgy decisions until the refs and players get the proper interpretations ironed out around what's classed as time wasting? what's a foul? what's a yellow? what's a red? under the new ruling.

Hopefully we've learnt to manage out games now they are likely to go longer as that was a massive issue last season. I remember working it out at the end of the season and if games ended on 90 mins, we'd have finished joint 3rd/4th but cant remember the GD swing.

If we score more fecking goals and stop trying to protect 1-0 leads we’ll be fine and injury time won’t matter.

Also this afternoon announced that clocks on the scoreboards will now include the stoppage time, rather than ending at 45 or 90 mins. No longer guessing how's longs left is a plus.

I think there are still a few clubs that don't have a digital scoreboard though.

I don't want anyone moaning when we lose in the 90+9th minute this season to a deflected goal

Another there for a pull back. Apparently every pull back and every little kick away of the ball when the whistle is blown is an immediate yellow.

If the refs don't give them, sounds like the ref will be docked down by the FA? Sky said the refs will be punished by assesers, can only think they either don't work that week or get demoted down a league?

6 minutes added at end of first half,
What will it be at 90 minutes, with possibly 10 substitutions?

Could well be another 15 minutes every game, at least the fans are seeing more football?

Coaching staff getting cards too. New rule is that you're only allowed one member of staff on the edge of the technical area. Dont know if it means one staff as well as the manager? Or if just the manager counts as 1 staff member on the edge of the box.
