Get ready for waves of yellow cards in the first month of the season whilst the new rules take time to bed in. I like the idea of cracking down on timewasting. Last year was as bas as I can remember for it. League Two saw the least amount of time with the ball in play last season .According to statistics from Opta, the ball was on the pitch on average for just 48.2 per cent of the game. That was compared with 54.46 in the Premier League, 52.13 in the Championship and 50.70 in League One.

Be good to see how many of these rules stick? Like players will now cant just decide to sit down and ask for a physio, they will be cautioned if they do so as now they have to leave the field to get treatment. Once the treatment is done, they have to wait 30 seconds with the 4th official before coming on. Cant see refs sticking to 30 seconds for too long without crowds getting angry.

Penalty rule changes too looks like it might lead to red cards.
Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick:
    • A yellow card will be issued if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball.
    • A red card will be shown in all other circumstances (e.g., holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball)
So if holding a player in the box now leads to a penalty, that player will be sent off. Every player holds in the box and you still see it now in the friendlies.

I like the new throw in rules. You have to use the nearest ball too you and no longer allowed to use towels to slow the game down and dry the ball. Tozer at Wrexham might as well retire now.

I think the multi ball rule is a good one.

The rest will be be rigorously enforced for a short while and then we’ll be back to normal.
It happens every time new laws (or adaptations of existing laws) are brought in.

Always the case. Always a flurry of cards and penalties in August. Watching match of the day the past few seasons, most the August fixture highlights are spent watching VAR replays until they all know the rules.

Shows how bad time wasting was in L2 last season, when even the PL with VAR interruptions still had the ball in play for 90 minutes more than our league did.

Or the 6 second rule for keepers?

Or the rule that subs exit the field of play at the side they are closest to?

That's been the law for a few years, this just adding a couple of extra words. The player will only be sent off if it's a obvious goalscoring opportunity so like the penalty we got against Stevenage wouldn't be a red card

We'll probably find a few more outfield players wearing gloves.

Can see games getting stopped more for having two balls on the pitch if we have balls dotted around edge the pitch

Time for an independent timekeeper methinks, let him adjudge the time-wasting sat in the stand.
A nice big clock that is stopped when play is halted and started again when play restarts.
Let the ref concentrate on the game.
Even the Yanks work like that for their 'football'.
Radical perhaps but will bring an end to the farcical situation we have now of playing 50 minutes out of 90.
Might not get to the Dolly until 6 o'clock though.

It’s not radical, it’s common sense. A big clock so that everyone in the ground can see you mean, would be great!

Who's controlling this clock? We are really struggling for referees so we would need to find 40+ from somewhere for Premier League and EFL alone plus someone has to pay for these. It also further creates a divide between top and bottom as you couldn't do thing like this in non-league or sunday league. To play 90 minutes how the American's play American football games would last 3 hours at least.

They may last 3 hours currently if players didn't adapt but I'm sure they would get shorter very quickly as the time wasting would be reduced.
Can not imagine the payment would be a huge issue in the greater scheme of things with the money sloshing around football.

Get ready to see 9 or 10 minutes added time in every game.
Might stop the mass exodus on 80-85minutes if there could be another 15 mins to play.

The ref at Mansfield was obviously ahead of his time.
    Wasn’t that 9 or 10 minutes?
