I agree with the post but let's be fair, it's getting more and more difficult to get excited about Barrow and Salford at home and generating an atmosphere is even more difficult without a decent away following to bounce off.

If course the bigger games will generate better atmosphere too because there's simply more excitement, nerves and tension around them.

I don't. My late Dad was always, to quote a modern phrase, "triggered" when he smelled one of those smoke bombs and I could see in his eyes where his head had gone. I know he's isn't/wasn't the only one either. But hey, why shouldn't some bog rats let them off off? It's all just fun (for them) right?
I'm just telling you the experience of someone who was in the midst of the Main Stand on the day and was lucky to get out alive. Someone who also saw some things which no one should ever have to see. If a smoke bomb brings all those memories back how can that be defended?

Absolutely agree Crosby pal...for those still around from that awful day, I cannot comprehend what they went through, and have had to endure mentally/emotionally ever since, my thoughts are often with each & every one of them

There are many of us still around from that day and there will be for decades to come. I'm 66 - I was 29 at the time, so there will have been thousands there younger than me. A ten year old kid then could potentially still have another 40+ years going to City matches. But, even 40 years hence, there's every chance that any sign of smoke or fire at a football ground will take them right back to that awful day.

I accept that the risk of fire or injury from the occasional pyro thrown by one of our coked-up idiots is pretty low in the scheme of things. But that's not the point. No one associated with this club should be disrespecting our history by chucking smoke bombs. To me it's as bad as opposition fans taunting us with chants about the fire. It simply shouldn't happen.

Going back to the problem re internet access on mobile phones, I'm with Giffgaff, which is run on the O2 network, & I too get nothing after 2.45, yet everyone sitting around me seems fine, checking scores, their bets, etc. Go walking out in the back of beyond with a bunch of mates every Wednesday & never have a problem with my connection, so I don't know what it is about Valley Parade.

On the flares/smoke bombs point, I was supposed to be in the main stand that fateful day against Lincoln. It was only because it was the trophy presentation, and mates who weren't season ticket holders wanted to go that caused us to go behind the goal on the Kop instead.

Even now, when I see a flare/smoke bomb go off, whether it's a game I'm watching live or on TV, I get a sickly shiver come over me due to the horrible memories it brings back of the smell of burning, and of then trying to find a house with a phone that would let us ring our families to let them know we were alive and unhurt.

If I saw someone in front of me light one with the intention of throwing it, I would even now at 70 years old, physically restrain them and call for stewards to deal with them.

So, potentially a football ban, jail sentence, civil lawsuit for damages if anyone taken ill (as some have been), and maybe career prospects ruined.

"An away supporter (Rochdale) was taken ill during the game, possibly connected to the use of such devices in the away end. Our thanks go to the medical teams from both clubs for their swift response, but their intervention should not have been necessary.

On the opening weekend of the EFL season a Crewe fan required “urgent medical attention” for breathing difficulties after a flare was let off in the away end at Rochdale.

Well it doesn’t bother me personally but we can all surely see why some City fans don’t like seeing smoke in football grounds.

Pyrotechnics in the hands of drunken weed smoking Neanderthals shouldn't be used in sports stadia or any enclosed area in fact.
Users Stop been idiots and grow up before someone gets hurt permanently it's that simple.
We don't need coloured smoke to create an atmosphere.

Glad it's not just me on GiffGaff that experiences really poor connection really any time after 2.45.

Not sure if @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler is still on here, or still involved with the appeals etc, but I know he has been previously so he may be able to shed some light on it

My understanding of this based on conversations I've had with someone who is involved with operations at a National League club is that if it gets thrown onto the pitch and it is included in the referee's report then the club incurs a fine. If it's lit, and goes out, within the stand itself, then there is no such fine for the club, but the user of the pyrotechnic is still liable for prosecution.

Speaking of disgraceful supporters, an element of Colchester's away following seemed to be goading the City fans in the midland road stand towards the end of the match, some trying to cross the segregation banners from what I could see from the main stand.

Can anyone in the Midland Road stand shed some light on what went on here?

Saw it from upper tier of Kop. Was after the second goal went in. Think there was only 2 or 3 of them that tried but then a couple of stewards entered the no mans land to stop them.
