Agreed. There are far too many people, certain in their own righteousness, who expect everyone to think and behave the same way that they do.

Anyone who has a different view is portrayed as selfish or lacking in respect.

This unwillingness to tolerate diversity of opinion has certainly got worse over the last few years and it's very unhealthy.

Of course no one is going to complain about getting an extra day off work, whatever the cause. Especially as we have the smallest number of public holidays in Europe, so people will take whatever they can get. Equating that with stopping sporting events is a bit silly really.

I'm consistent at least. I haven't watched or taken part in any royal event in my lifetime - silver, golden, diamond or platinum jubilees, royal weddings, Diana's funeral, street parties for any of the above etc etc. I've absolutely no interest in any of it. I just don't get the point of it all. I can see that the Queen was a decent hardworking woman but I don't see why those who want to mourn her death should stop those who don't getting on with normal life. I realise you feel differently.

 

That is pathetic. Thatcher always made out that only Tories are patriotic and this is no different. I don't agree with nicknameless but he has a right to his opinion. I can sympathise when our lives are cancelled and we are subjected to blanket boring coverage of events we are not obsessed with fronted by boring reporters, usually young female privileged socialites who deify our royal family. Yes, I turned the tele off. At school in the 50s, we had the bible rammed down our throats so I became atheist. If you want people to respect your views, then respect their right to have theirs without trying to make out they are beings of a lesser intellect,

Well, to be honest the football situation has completely ruined my weekend. Don’t know about anyone else but I’ve genuinely been really fed up all day. Ridiculous decision to call it all off.

 

Its the weekend guys, chill out. Just be thankful you haven't got new neighbours who've been using power tools past 8 oclock for the past 5 months like i have. Doing my nut in.

Haha thats true. To be fair i've just about had enough of listening to Stihl saws and circular saws night after night. I'm a tradesman myself and i wouldn't dream of using industrial power tools after 8 oclock. Especially when they needs to use my path in the future cos they've converted the garage.

 

Well, I took the cross country team to to one of the biggest meets of the season this morning at General Andrew Jackson’s old pad in Nashville. Cracking morning, 3 girls, 3 boys 4 pb’s and a season best. Alan Spence (St.Bede’s) would have been proud. Not sure if it makes me unpatriotic though. Certainly made setting off at 5:00am worthwhile.
I agree with the earlier poster who suggested that we should simply respect other opinions on the whole cancellation issue, even if we don’t agree with them.

Steady on USG. There are many of us on the broad left who are fully behind our unique constitution, who despise wokery and who voted for Brexit. All of which has nothing whatsoever to do with the decision to postpone football this weekend which was decided by the football authorities. Some people think this was the wrong decision but it's really nothing to do with right and left.

 

That's pure assumption. I don't agree with the political views of Johnson or Corbyn but I don't see them as evil. It would take too much room to list the reasons. You shouldn't assume. I was born into a Tory family and actually had a great uncle whose circle of close friends included the Marquis of Queensbury, the gay irish hating pugilist.

I agree we need to show respect for her passing, no problem whatsoever....I think it was an over reaction with no thought to thousands of fans who had bought tickets, made travel arrangements, suppliers, and hundreds of thousands of kids up and down the country waiting to start their grassroots football season....

I didn't see the folks in Piece Hall and Halifax doing much mourning at 3.00pm....

 

Next Saturdays game will probably be postponed too
