There are opinions and there are facts. This above is pretty much 100% factual. You can spend as much as you want on the City of culture but once the circus has left town is tong street gonna be any better? Are trains gonna roll freely through the centre of town? Are we gonna see proper outward investment from serious industrial companies? All what Steve mentions above will still be there long after the culture city stuff has gone. There is simply no financial gain for either government or the private sector to invest in the place.

    Great! Well done!!

Next f@cking own something instead of acting like a pub team.

Picture the commercial profits then. Lazy club to go with a lazy City!

Funny this about the link up with the university. Some of us on here have been banging on about it for ages as other clubs have had links their universities for years. Better late than never I suppose

You have to wonder if in the past club sponsorship has been given the priority Ryan and Davide Longo have brought to the club, Ryan has not done as well as most including himself would want (hopefully that will, change with Sparkie at the helm) but certainly the commercial side is going from strength to strength.

The Broadway is just the latest in a great number of stupid planning decisions that have wrecked what was once a lovely city centre. It's an absolute monstrosity and creates an awful claustrophobic feel to the area around it. It wll soon be a shell populated by poundshops, charity shops and empty spaces.

One of the reasons is they know it's a "red wall" seat that will never fall. The three "Bradford" Consituencies (excluding Bingley & Shipley have only had three one term Tory MPs combined since 1931, and Bradford West has never had one.

Picture the commercial profits being wiped out to pay for the debt on the money borrowed to buy it. Give me one reason why Rupp should pay out of his own pocket to buy the ground or a training facility ? He owns a business not a charity.

You might run a car wash, but you know nothing about business if you think the sole owner of a Ltd company is going to shed out millions to buy or build an asset out of his own personal cash to simply satisfy someone who keeps shouting about it.

When proper businesses buy assets, they only do it if it exponentially increases the value of the business and then they borrow to do it to reduce the tax burden.

Did Ken Morrison ever buy the land for a supermarket from his own pocket, or did Jack Tordoff ever buy stock that way ?

Do you think any of the big accountancy like KMPG or law firms like Addleshaw Booths in Leeds & Manchester actually own the premises they trade from ? No, they are all pretty much owned by large pension funds like L&G and Aviva or large property conglomerates.

Even the vast majority of pubs are owned by "pub co's" like Punch who rent them back at high levels of rent.

Manchester City & Newcastle are both tenants of the City Council and most other PL grounds are owned by separate companies that have a wholly different board to the football club. Huddersfield's ground is owned by Kirklees Council.

If he buys the ground we don't pay the rent, saving the club nearly £500k a year. That gets you a couple more excellent players at League 2 level. That gives us an even better chance of getting promoted.

Then Rupp owns a League 1 club with 18,000 fans, that owns it's ground. That's probably worth £15M.
Rupp sells and makes a lot of money.

If we ever get back to the Championship-that's the time to sell and move aside for Rupp.

Fantasy land stuff. If Rupp owns the ground, he would do it under a different company and charge us rent, more than likely somewhere near the going rate that we currently pay. Have a look at the price of commercial property rents. Maharaja textiles on Cemetery Rod is £150,000 pa, centenary Court in Forster Sq is £368,000 Pa, and there are hundreds that are POA because they are much more.

Rupp is no fool, and he's also not rich enough to spend £10 million of his own hard earned on a football ground. If he bought it there would be borrowing against it at commercial rates (which are around 7%). The interest alone (which he would expect us to cover) would be more than the rent we pay.

It's pie in the sky stuff thinking that he would buy the ground and "give" us it simply because it creates an asset that he could later realise, though he could put the depreciation against the tax bill of the business he set up to buy it.

The first thing previous owners did when they bought VP from Bradford Council was to mortgage it.

We are more saleable at £5million with a long lease on VP than we are at £15m with a mortgaged ground. Newcastle not owning theirs, or Man City for that matter, didn't stop the fake sheiks buying them. A £10 million ground with £8million worth of debt on it is only worth £2million to a buyer.

    Not forgetting the phone shops.

Being of a certain age like myself you will remember the fantastic architectural building that were Swan Arcade and Kirkgate Market, Swan Arcade had warm air being blow out of ducting in the floor where during winter the women congregated holding the clothing down as the warm air kept their nether regions warm.
Vandals couldn't have done any worse than past and present councils what was once a beautiful City centre is now a modern concrete monstrosity, the new Broadway blocking that great old GPO building with the Bradford Cathedral behind.

Agree up to a point, but lets not forget Labour were in control for 13 years they could have done plenty of evening up but I didn't see a great deal of difference with regards Bradford during that time.

I do indeed remember all you refer to. It makes me sad and angry in equal measure when I think of what has happened to what was once a great city. I fear there is little hope for the place. There are, of course, honourable exceptions such as yourself, but most people that I know who loved the city left long ago or would leave now if they had the ability to do so. The effect of demographic change is overwhelming and it's hard to imagine what could be done to make any significant difference. Many well-meaning people try, but by any rational assessment Bradford is now a desperate place.

Exactly how i feel. I might go for a cheap beer at weatherspoons and admire the huge paddling pool but generally despise what the place has become. I don't think it has one decent defining feature bar the smattering of good Victorian buildings. At night its like a ghost town

Not sure I follow Simon? If a course’s fees are £10k or whatever, do the uni not get those fees via yearly installments? The uni have the cash in the bank?…..are you saying they dont actually pay the fees until they graduate now?

it’s all changed since I went. Fees were a few grand then. You paid up or got booted off yer course.

You got a student loan up to 4k a year to cover living expenses - means tested - then started to pay it off upon graduation if earning above x amount!

The uni get the money at it is added to a loan which is payable when earning over a much higher rate than when student loans first came out. Then if they are not fully repaid over a short time than previous they are wiped.

It would be interesting to see what percentage of fees are actually paid in full

Haaa. Must be somebody at the club who cant keep a secret though. Every signing, sponsorship deals, new kit images etc has been on here days before official announcement. Must be really frustrating for staff and Mr Rupp.
