The city’s decline was down to the end of the wool trade and unlike in more recents time where mining towns were given millions of help Bradford got nothing.
The city used to have car manufacturing and was one of the first to produce tv’s and as you know plenty of Engineering all of which have disappeared.
It needs investment like the govt subsidised Nissan plant in Sunderland. There is going to be a big growth in green technology in the coming years Batteries for electric cars for instance why can’t Bradford have some of that. There used to be a good chamber of commerce in Bradford what has happened to that. The city needs a proactive mayor similar to the guy in Sheffield who fights for investment.

Yes, I'm well aware of that Dave. And I'm sure that Bradford Councils of all persuasions have made mistakes in the past, as most do - don't get me started on the desecration of my home town, Grays.

But people keep saying that the council should be putting money into this and that, and I'm just saying that they are currently skint , because their budget has been slashed in half by Osborne and co. So anyone that's expecting the council to fund massive improvements in the city is in Dreamland.

Lets hope after winning City of Culture it can do the same for Bradford as it has done for Hull, Birmingham etc, I get that Birmingham is England's second biggest City but watching last night the legacy the Commonwealth Games will leave the City of Birmingham would be great.
I'm 100% with you with regards the last century under the Tories and there being no money available, unfortunately we hear stories with regards lending Omar Khan the then Bulls owner £200,000 (I believe the figure was) has this been repaid and the silly venture of funding cricket at Headingly for an England Vs Pakistan which ultimately lost money costing the council tax payers of Bradford.

Good points. My father worked for Jowett, before it collapsed.
I worked as a student in the most famous of Illingworth and Morris Mills. The vast majority of the machinery was pre World War 1, and regularly broke down. The only new item was made in (West) Germany! I also did a stint as a student at Jeromes, which has long gone.
The Mill owners never invested in new machinery and were complicit in the run down of the industry.

Bradford has been in decline as long back as just after WW1. It served a purpose for the best part of hundred years, now it doesn't have one like a few towns and cities in the North of England. Its ability to change is severely limited by the geographical location. Its a dead end.

Grays has suffered for being Thurrock and investment went into "Chafford Hundred" Lakeside etc. There's 20M been put in to develop the riverside. It's a shame that if it were part of LB of Havering it would attract more investment.

No, just need to own it.

Derby new owner first thing he did is buy the stadium.

Oldham’s new owner is buying the stadium.

Leeds new owners brought the stadium.

What do Bradford City do @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler -NOTHING! Lazy club that lacks ambition.

I tell you what if there was a couple of marginal seats in the city it would have had its new station all ready

Here you go. You and @Fordy117@Fordy117 can start new careers! https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/job-profiles/mp
A max of 2 years and five months to save the Universe, or perhaps a more modest goal of Bradford!!

You could call the party …..erm……Kee-Flip. Time to move the City and metropolitan district forward.

How long should I hold my breath for?;)

@Fordy117@Fordy117 is in charge of inner city regeneration through the introduction of high end hand car washes, strategically placed on all routes in to Bradford-Leeds Road will have them on the pavement where most of the cars are already. Special rates for quad bikes.

I would head up food tasting and brothel inspections.

@Rcbantam@Rcbantam would be head of Positivity and business development :innocent:

@Bronco@Bronco would be heading up the history of Bradford district team back to the 1800's when he was a young boy ;)

The party could be called Respect Bradford is bouncing back Boing Boing.

Not true. So many University towns and cities struggle to retain graduates, primarily because their economies are not aligned to the courses they graduate in.
