The only one I would change is Chapman for Osadebe

Interesting how many times he alluded to the fact that we needed to change to upset Chesterfields rhythm. Isn't that down to the management team to order the players to change formation? Hopefully MH and GH can learn from todays game and be a little more proactive when we get a high press against us which is inevitable based on Chesterfields approach today.

We should be able to adapt with Oliver up front with any number of players to support him.and most of our defenders especially crichlow are adept at passing.
If we can play the way we want that’s great if not find a way

Clearly the '16' were right, we shouldn't have played in the heat on Tuesday ;).

It's what you learn in defeat, which is important. This defeat, will hopefully have positive connotations.

Did we learn that we are not good enough and it will be a long painful season again after we all thought it was going to be the one

He could stand up and shout at them but what he wants is for them to work it out themselves. Good learning exercise today.

Agree to a point but surely its down to the management to identify the issue and make the changes. Anyway let's see where we are V Donny in just less than a week.

It was pleasing to hear that another pre season match has been organised-a behind closed doors fixture.
A pity that the interviewer didn't ask about the injury/illness state of those missing from today's squad.

I don’t know much if anything about professional dressing rooms but I hope the management team set the team up through the week, such as what to do in certain situations i.e if we are struggling to beat the press go longer or play it down the channels of their full back is struggling. They’re just basic examples but I’ve seen numerous teams pick holes in our weaknesses over the years, sometimes a team like Swindon(away) or Forest Green won’t look to exploit our weaknesses which was often crossed last season and that cost supposedly better teams in the league against us.

But ultimately if the management team have prepared the team through the week then the players need to take responsibility for a change in plan once they see a pattern emerge, that’s what separates the better teams those who can adapt without being spoon fed, it felt like the team were scared of their own shadows under Adams as time went on I’d rather Hughes prepare them but also give them license to think for themselves once our there. Plus there’s only so much you can really say on the touch line.

I wasn’t there but hopefully the players and management took plenty away and the players feel more confident to take the initiative next week if something isn’t working without having to be told. I know it’s an excuse but a number of your players been racially abused doesn’t help things either, I’d be shocked if ever BAME player didn’t have it on their mind involved in the incident or not. It certainly effected the players enough for a temporary stoppage.

I haven’t read through the all the posts so sorry if this has been mentioned… however… with the season only a week a way, maybe that had an impact on the players not wanting to get injured before the big kick off?

I get professionalism and doing your job blah blah, however, a meaningless friendly or the first game of the season - I’d rather they protect themselves for the latter.

On that, were there any reported injuries today?

We also need to bear in mind that we have 14 players who in the main, have never played together and barely know each other. It might take a few matches before they click into gear. Add to that, some of the first choice players are out injured.

Was working today so didn't follow anything just came home at 5 to the result. At first I was disappointed/annoyed take your pick, even more so as it looked like say about 80% of our starting team started. But after letting it sink in and thinking about it I recon in a strange way this is a good result. A good kick up our ass and bring everyone back down to earth is probably just what most of us needed, all players involved today must now realise their place in the team is severely under threat unless they shape up, I'm sure MH will have let them know this, and if he was pondering whether to strengthen any areas with any remaining budget then this result may definitely influence his decision.

We played badly today just to give the Donny scouts a false picture of us :)

It’s good that people now know it’s not a formality that we’re that good to win every week straight away we are a long way of ff , a lot of hard work to get even a mid table team , then we can build over the season to maybe get in play offs

Surely if we are good in our formation, tactics and application, then it is Chesterfield who should need to change, to try to upset our rhythm?
