You can’t make a player faster, thats determined by body mechanics. The only speed you can change is speed of thought and that would determine hiw far a player ilke Wyke will progress.

 

Too true. An experienced coach once told me the best players are the ones with the best anticipation and a second ahead of their opponents in their mind. Take for example Croatia’s winning goal last night - excellent anticipation by their forward to get ahead of Stones.

 

Lets face it Wyke is a very good lower league player, and does have good feet, but if he had any pace he'd already be an established championship striker. Look at Jordan Rhodes, tore most teams a new one at Huddersfield and for a while at Blackburn but now he's been found out and is getting farmed around clubs who think they can make him come good again.

If Wyke has any sense he'll realise he's at the peak of his limited ability and either sign a new contract of go to Peterborough. He's not got half the potential of McNulty who can play off the shoulder of the last man, in the way that Championship strikers do.

Wyke is very much more Hanson than even the likes Robson-Kanu (who is vastly overrated for the level he plays at) and we should (in a nice way) try to get that through to him. His biggest problem is his agent whose knowledge of a good striker will be limited and whose job is to hawk him for the best salary.

 

Dean Saunders being a very good example of that.
