Guiseley friendly - lost 2-1

In terms of new signings:

O'Donnell - looked good, good distribution and communication

Riley - our best player on the night. Really good going forward. Not tested defensively.

O'Connor - solid. Looks like the nasty bastard we've been missing.

Wright - tidy, good effort that hit the bar.

Isherwood - unconvincing to say the least.

Wood - disappointing. For his crossing ability, he didn't attempt one all night. Got caught out defensively a few times too.

Centre midfield trialist - looked tidy, always showing for the ball. However, would be disappointed to sign him for more than the development squad. First team needs better.

GK trialist - looked like we'd brought sattelmaier back.

On a side note, Vincelot was abysmal. Legs well and truly gone.

 

Wasn't at the game, but Vincelot doesn't surprise me. Anyone who thought he was just out of form obviously didn't watch him last season, he was always several steps off the play, that's far more than just a loss of form there's no way back for him.

 

Sounds like last pre season. I'd expect the lads you've mentioned to have done to do well, they come with that experience of playing at a decent level. The others are just squad fillers like the Barrs and Pybus of last season. Still the likes of MacGowan and Reeves to come back but shows we are still light on quality.

 

Agree with most of that, although I think Isherwood might be alright in a different formation, put a couple of decent tackles in.

Think Jones could come good this season, looks much fitter than he has done previously as did McCartan.

Brunker was like a headless chicken as usual.

Vincelot was absolutely dire, looked knackered.

On the plus side, robinson, seedorf, akpan, patrick all in the stands today, plus reeves and NKP to fill out the first team

 

NKP and Patrick? Can't wait.

 

Thought the centre midfield triallist was the best player on the field in first half. Always showing for the ball, made space for himself all the time and kept moving the ball onto team mates then immediately moving for the return.
The main thing that emerged from tonight was a lack of goal scoring possibilities. We desperately need reinforcements in this area.

Oh i forgot. I thought chicksen was very sloppy too. Neither left back impressed which is a worry

 

The midfield trialist was Luca Colville released from Huddersfield.

 

Left Back position looks weak atm. We have Chicksen who is fairly average and a complete punt as his competition. We should have just paid the extra 15k for Leigh.

 

O'Donnell did more shouting and organising the defence in that 1st half than Doyle did all of last season.
O'Connor was quality,gets stuck in and can play a bit.
Wright is a midfielder than can actually shoot.
The trialist no.4 in the first half was called
Luca,at least that was what Collins kept calling him.

 

What about Wyke I haven’t heard him mentioned all night

One good header from a corner. Tried to link with gibson alot, made a few runs when the ball never came so got frustrated. He did look interested but imo the formattion doesnt suit him. For him to succeed he Needs a partner up top, not someone playing behind him. we saw that with brunker last year for the last few games, it takes alot of pressure off of him

 

Maybe it was done simply so we could play with two teams tonight but i was surprised to see us line up with a back four, its was contrary to what was being implied in the lead up to the friendlies.
Out of the four i saw tonight and NKP on the sidelines, the question id have to ask is, if we are playing only 2 centre halves who partners kilgallon

 

We need players

Lots of us have been saying that since he signed
He has the ability to become a goood championship striker but can't do it all by himself
No wonder if rumours are true he wants away

 

Anyone there tonight would confirm ..Abbott is "the Manager". Mikey n Marty (can't work out who's who ?"stood there looking clueless. You cannot manage by commitee. Sooner or later one of this "triumpherate of indecision" will need to step forward. Rest assured it's going to be Abbott. Performance tonight ? Unispiring to say the least.

 

Poor lad Brunks wouldn't be good enough for Guiseley, let's not kid ourselves!
