Ermmm Cullen played for both sides. And signed for the 2015/2016 in Jan/Feb.

    Wyke over Proctor then.

I know he played for both teams. That's why I said "obviously" since he did actually play.

Yep. I've Wyke over Proctor. As i said though, as a starting point those 8 you mentioned were probably the strongest starting point we've had in the last 3 years in terms of quality. If that's a shambles to be left with in terms of the standard on the pitch then God only knows what the last 2 years have been.

Sunderland so far not going down the route many thought by splashing the cash. Free transfers and now linked to a player who has had 1 good season whilst on loan to a 4th tier club. Must be a big culture shock to their fans

They are waiting on player departures before spending on players
They still have a very high wage bill with players like kone and khazri ..

And he can throw at you that they’ve invested in the pitch, paid transfer fees etc.
For me this is the defining season at will show their ambitions.

Yes, spending big on players wages didn't work for Sunderland did it? Incredible they were paying players like Rodwell 73k a week.

You said starting points. Cullen wasnt a 2015/2016 starting point, like Wyke wasnt for 16/17. I would also have Marshall as a 16/17 player because he was under utilused in 15/16.

8 contracted first team players is despicable and bad planning.

Rodwell trained with the junior team he wasn't allowed anywhere near the 1st. At one point Coleman didn't know where he was alot of money going to waste there. He has now had a pay cut because of being relegated but is still on 45k.

How many have we historically had? To be honest I’d bet it wasn’t many more

Well he certainly won't be on 45 k a week there. If Wyke thinks about doing the same he might be in for a shock this time next year.

The question you asked was "how many of the 2015/2016 starting 11 would get into the 2016/2017 starting 11?"

I responded saying all 8 contracted players you mentioned. Plus Burke, Evans, Cullen (obviously, since he actually did get into the 16/17 starting 11) and possibly Reid.

I don't view having 8 contracted players as bad planning as long as those 8 are good. I think we had a similar amount of contracted players at the start of McCall's second year. It a massively overplayed. How many proper first team players did we have contracted a month ago?

Pitch:Had to be done. Bit like owning a house and roof leaking. Like it or not it had to be fixed.

Transfers: not true. Reduced wage bill and selling the likes of Hanson paid for Wkye and saved money.

Our owners haven't invested in this club. The main backer isn't bothered it seems. The club was brought for Edin to try play Football Manager. If you can't see through this then join @Park bantam@Park bantam on the delusional cloud.

Ironically, most of last seasons squad are under contract for the following season and the rebuilding job this pre season is far bigger than the one which was required when PP had left. It is easier to bring in some squad players and a few first teamers to accompany the 8 which are already first team ready than it is to replace 90% of the first 11 due to them not being good enough.

It's proven that clubs who pay more are more likely to be successful. Subtlely different as it's not a given that they will be successful (Bury). Of course this statement also applies. It's proven that clubs who pay more go bust quicker.

Sorry@Fordy117 but you are wrong about Hanson deal paying for Wyke, don't forget we had to pay Guiesley a big percentage of fee as a sell on and my info is we got nothing like 250k for Hanson. That transfer window we also bought Jones for 30k so the owners had to dig quite a lot of dosh to fund the Wyke and Jones fees.
