Nothing to do with coaches it’s to do with his interests. If he waits a year he will be able to choose his own club and instead of us getting a transfer fee he gets a big signing on fee.

True. But said team, maybe a Middlesborough/Sunderland who are linked etc may not want him in 12 months.

 

Well if he thinks waiting 12 months and then lining his own pocket rather than moving now is going to be a good move his agent must be mad . If I was edin knowing this was the possible outcome I'd take the plunge buy 2 striker's then put him training with the youngsters for the final year he would be worth next to feck all then Maybe have to go back to league 2 to get a club.

 

So basically we are commenting on a rumour that Wyke likes Collins’ coaching? Being told of his techniques by an u18 isn’t going to get Wyke to state that he likes them. He’ll want to see this for himself.

I’m sure Michael didn’t work with the 1st team at any point last season. McCall and Black were sometimes joined by u23 coach, Sam Collins and when Grayson and Snodin took over, even less involvement was allowed of our existing coaches.

The players have only been back for a couple of days and one of them was fitness testing. I’m not sure Wyke would have had much time t have a detailed conversation with Collins about his coaching ideas (especially if true what Bronco was told the other day was true).

 

A lot of footballers are now unemployed after their contracts finished on 30th June. I wonder if we will see some more signings next week.

 

If the rumours are true and we turned down 800k I think they will live to regret it. It’s about right

 

It's ok coaches saying what there preferred formation is but surely they need the players to suit that formation. Have we got two fast strikers who can score goals don't think so. Jones and Wyke for me.That is if we don't sign a quality striker to suit the coaches requirements.

 

If Edin has turned down 800k, then he's right. Forest green want 1m for Doidge, Coventry wanted the same for McNulty and this is for 2 players who have done nothing above league 2. Add to this Barnsley want 2m for Moore. Come on 800k? Championship clubs will pay way above worth in this market.

Our fans for some reason constantly undervalue players, but one thing I'm confident with edin is that he won't sell on the cheap.

 

We will see I don’t think we will get 1m for Wyke. And with 6 months on his contract in January we certainly won’t

 

I don't think it's that unusual to start the close season with that many players under contract. Especially when at least 3 of the crucial first team players were on loan.

More importantly though, I'd probably take that group of players as a starting point than either of the 2 squads we've had at the same point in the years since.

 

I agree thats what made me think Charlie aint going to be a bench player, but he was adamant Collins & Drury wanted to play 3-5-2 with the playes at their disposal, I havent read anything about thd Cornwall trip as yet though and he did say they were flying down today.

 

I’d like us to snap up someone like Tarique Fosu (Charlton). He’s currently in negotiations about a new contract but I’m not sure if his existing one still has a year left to run (contradictory reports on that). Can play as an attacking midfielder/2nd striker or cutting in from out wide

Another couple of players that would increase my appetite for the new season would be Sammie Szmodics (Colchester) or even somebody like Chuks Aneke (MKD). All 3 are good, proven attacking midfielders and are all still relatively young.

 

Reducing the wage bill.

It's been proven that clubs that pay more become more successful.

 

Yes I know, and when we had to switch from from our ‘passing game’ to a more direct approach we were well and truly......... I realise that is wishing for the moon, it is what teams do if they want promotion. Sheffield U purchased Hanson for just such an event, whether you agree with their choice or not. I might also add, tWyke cannot do this, it is not in his skill set. He may well be over 6ft, but he is better used as part of a dual strike partnership.

 

I would agree the squad was stronger in 2015/2016 season, but it was filled up wiith loans and 4/5 were in the starting 11 week in week out. For 2017/2018 we tried something different and it didn't work out - I just live in hope these methods will work in the mid term, I didn;t think it would in the short term.

Ask yourself though, how many of the 2015/2016 starting 11 would get into the 2016/2017 starting 11? Burke and Evans? I think Doyle was an improvement on Williams and Wyke an improvement on Hanson. Marshall didn;t play much for the 2015/2016 squad and he was much better than Reid the previous season. Would also argue a case for a fit Jones over Proctor.

 

The 8 that you mentioned from 15/16 we're pretty much the core of the squad in 16/17 though so all of them did get in it.

I'd have had Burke, Evans and Cullen obviously. Possibly even Reid over Law.

When we're talking about Wyke over Hanson I agree with you bit you're talking about different times. We started the season with Hanson but of we're comparing starting points then the January signings aren't as relevant.

According to James Goodwin’s twitter (another claiming to be an ex-agent, he claims Bolton still want Wyke and that it could happen as the player is disillusioned.

In other news, Jorge Grant could be unveiled at Sunderland this week, he claims that Luton and Scunthorpe the only other two sides left in the hunt.
