Carlisle fan here, if there is any truth whatsoever in the Zanzala thing then mark my words you've escaped a bullet, he made Omar Patrick look really, really good. And lets face it if he chose Barrow over Bradford then he must be a couple of Rooks short of a chess set, or they've offered him really silly money, which I seriously doubt!!! (not that I've got anything against our Cumbrian rivals of course ........cough, cough)

 

We said we tried to sign him last January when we tried to sign loads of strikers

We got Rowe and Cook and Burrell instead so that we didn't have to play Donaldson up front anymore think we would have signed anyone at that point

 

Nice one, Blubry and best to you and your club. Zanzala to us would be an absolute joke. Not good enough or consistent enough for what we need.

Unrelated to us but just seen Swindon have signed Jonny Williams. Slightly confused by it but seems a very decent signing for them.

 

I've mentioned him a little while ago. Us welsh fans dont call him Joniesta for nothing

Sounds to me like his agent has convinced Barrow we were in for him when we weren't to get them to panic and up their offer. They've believed it so hard they've announced it publicly but our CEO is saying we were told how much he wanted and just laughed at his agent and no offer was made... suppose it depends who you choose to believe but it seems to have a ring of truth to it

 

I think Sparks could and should’ve kept a professional silence on this one, after issuing the first denial about being outbid by Barrow. I like lots of what he’s done so far, but his CEO immaturity has come through on this one for me. There’s no need to take the bait, our fans aren’t bothered anyway. I wonder if he’s trying to take a leaf out of Darraghs’ book.

 

Granted that at his age you’d have expected more appearances, however his quality cannot be denied. From what I’ve seen he’s considerably better standard than this division so if Swindon can get at least 2/3’s of the season from him, they’ve got a very very good signing.

Really baffled on his decision to drop so a league so low but maybe he’s taking this as an opportunity to get games and rebuild. From what I saw of him on the Sunderland documentary I liked him.

 

Not doubting his ability, he should be the best midfield player in league 2 for sure.

However, a big risk for Swindon, he will be on very high wages for this level, and an expensive punt with his injury record

 

Barrow had their pants pulled down, it's something we've been victim to before. Ryan was putting a very clear message out there to all the dodgy agents and players that think they are better than they are that we ain't falling for that sort of thing anymore, and good on him for doing it I say.

 

I might be biased by my Welshness but Johniesta is a top player for this level... if he can stay fit. For a club that can afford to take that gamble, it could come off spectacularly well - but I'm not sure we could afford to.

I suspect geography will have come into that move too, to an extent - he won't need to move house for that switch.

 

Wasn't he at Palace at the same time as Garner? I wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with it as well.
