Match Thread Away v Exeter City @3.00pm Sat Aug 7th

The ROD flap was given as a free kick to us, presumeably for a foul on the keeper. The one they should have scored from (and they really, really should have scored) was a different attack.

Their keeper double save was given as offside against Angol but he should have put it in, decent first save from a deflected Cooke shot.

Angol had a right chance in the 2nd half but miscontrolled. However, he did well to get himself another shooting opportunity but smacked it in to the side netting (not sure I'd have expected him to cross it from where he ended up).

Personally I thought Gilliead played well, looked comfortable on the ball, didn't give it away and carried it well under pressure.

Over the course of 90 minutes I thought we were the better side. They had some good pressure at the end of the 1st half down our right wehn OT was limping and then they pushed us at the end of the match and their midfielder air shotted an open goal from about 1 yard out but other than that everythng was routine for ROD and they never threatened to really cut us open. For us, I though Angol played well overall but should have done better in the 2nd minute when he failed to pick out Cook for a tap in and then the miss in the 2nd half, two big chances that we really should have done better with.

 

This afternoon both teams failed to get into any sort of real free flowing football.
The game in general was stop start and littered with pathetic attempts by both sides to win a set play be taking to the playing surface far to cheaply.
Good point on the road but far from entertaining.
How Exeter failed to score at the end with the goal at the players mercy was beyond belief,summed proceedings up.
Opening day bore draw.

 

Wasn’t bad, needs to be better. Looked better with Vernam on in the 2nd half.

 

Just finished watching the game. Both teams would have been justifiably disappointed had it not been a draw as it was a decent and even contest. We should have been 1-0 up with 2 mins as the cross from Angol to Cook should have been a goal. Cooke’s shot for the double save from the keeper in the first half and should have tested the keeper better.

Second half Exeter will be really disappointed they didn’t score the chance at the end.

On the whole I can understand why Adam’s is happy. Thought all new signings looked an improvement on last season and at a early stage we just generally looked a stronger outfit. Specifically Gillead and Angol played well and though Vernam was a threat when he came on.

Not really a great deal else to say which i suppose is ok. Lots to be optimistic about. Looking forward to the next game.....

I thought Exeter looked bang average. Only day 1, and they're usually up there, but they've had a big turnover in their squad. Too early to say who'll do what.

 

Maybe we made them to look bang average? Certainly sounded like that during the game. They hardly troubled us, apart from that last minute miss they did look indeed an average side. Credit where credit is due to City perhaps for effectively nullifying them at home.

 

Every match we play and every team always look bang average according to fans. The reality is we play in a bang average league and it’s the set standard

 

Maybe so. Every season is largely a clean slate for most clubs at this level. No real context to results at this stage. Decent point on the face of it though
