Why? We've always had a knack of signing one decent keeper and then having some absolute tosh backup keepers, I've never understood why we've always scrimped on the keeper position.

The last decent pairing of goalkeepers we had that where OURS (loans not counted) was Ricketts and Henderson.

 

Shame to see him go, decent keeper and good character.

But I’m struggling for to much sympathy in this case and Diengs. All contacts should have an expiration date the club needs time to find replacements.

They are entitled to negotiate and look for the best deals possible of course, but it’s been more or less six weeks, there aren’t to many jobs which would wait around for the ordinary person and footballers definitely don’t deserve special treatment. I’d suggest his agent needs to work to a faster time scale in the future.

Just hope we don’t end up with more shite like Sattlemier again or we are in trouble.

 

Conor Ripley my first choice to replace. George Long is decent too. Both available I believe.

He's been playing for Ireland the last few matches. Probably looking for an improved deal and at his age probably a longer term deal too.

We only give 3 year contracts to talented young coaching teams.

 

Colin's wife Rebecca replied to my tweet with interesting phrasing "We are not ones to wish ill on the club and wish to see it grow in strength"

Cant imagine the contract 'negotiations' went very well, she seems upset.

 

Well if our recent history of signing goal keepers is anything to go by we will struggle. We will have to see what we get. If we get a good league 1 goalkeeper who has experience we will be doing well.

So the club are scum, as some of the comments say for telling him whilst he's on holiday, why didn't he sign if he wanted to stay ?

 

Probably wanted to see if a better offer came along, as is his right. But we are within ours to look elsewhere if we feel he is taking to long, pre season starts next week times moving on I’m not sure what people expected the club to do. I’m sure the answer is offer more, although they don’t know the offer in the first place.

 

Not a big Edin basher normally. Think some people need to get a grip and a lot of moaning is because people want a sugar daddy to spend millions, gambling for promotion. It's ridiculous people insist on this. Yes it's the most likely way to get promotion. The problem is that we have to incur a massive debt to do it and if we dont achieve promotion, well, we're fecked... The club was sold to Rupp/Rahic which i think means there was, and is, no sugar daddy prepared to bank roll this fantasy.

My issue is that he doesn't appear to match his words with his deeds. He wants to engender loyalty in players, managers and fans but frequently his actions seem to contradict thisi. He stresses patience but sacks McCall after 1 bad run. Appoints Grayson who is the antithesis of his philosophy. We have had several players leave who seemed to hold genuine affection for the club - Rory, Hanson, Hendrie and now Doyle. If we are to compete through other means, then I think it's vital our players have an affinity with the club. Affection is a two way thing. Edin is in effect asking players to rise above themselves but offering nothing in return.

In summary, we won't get far if a lot of our squad think Edin's an arsehole.

 

Don't worry. You'll all get to see him play on the first game of the season still..

 

I would not mind Conor Ripley myself either.

 

It wasn’t that long ago we were all saying he was shite. Then we saw Rouven Sattelmaier flapping and he didn’t seem so bad after all. I’ll be sad to see him go as I loved it when he busted a gut to play after International duty in Turkey and I think he is a solid enough keeper but I’m not overly concerned if the truth be told.

 

I read it as he was offered reduced terms..if the case then no surprise, although he seemed happy and settled at the Club.

 

Shame, he is a good player at this level.

Some posters are knocking Doyle for not signing, when all he actually did was reject the Clubs derisory offer. He was possibly awaiting the Club to review their offer - But obviously they didn't.
It's now done - So we move on.

 

I can't believe when new contracts are offered that a deadline isn't given to the players for when that offer will be withdrawn if they haven't signed. If that is the case, either the club have gone back on their word or Doyle has got his dates wrong. If it's the former then that is very underhand and disrespectful to a player that has been a good servant to the club. If it's the later then Doyle has either been careless or was so unhappy with the offer that he was never going to sign anyway.

 

Not surprised par for course with this lot in charge !
