as this season effectively ended on tuesday, looking to next season.
    Who is under contract?
who would you offer contracts to?
who would you be happy to see leave?
where do we need to strengthen?

Shouldn’t have signed him in the first place tbh, I guess as T & S weren’t permanent then they just went along with it as I believe he was lined up when McCall was in charge.

Other than as a second striker with a free role I’m not sure what other positions he’d thrive in, can’t see these two moving away from 4231/433 so not sure where he fits in.

This is why we need a set structure so we can actually recruit players who are strong in them positions and formations.

Im happy to see ismaili leave. Literally done nothing whilst hes been here.
I would say up top with a pacey forward, that burell hasn’t even had a single app yet....

Need some wing backs too, id be happy for wood to stay but it’s understandable as his wage is high. Wonder if we see if bryce can come back or if we look elsewhere? Either way need 4 signings imo.

If Rowe leaves, the number of strikers/forwards(if you dont list Vernham as one) at City is a big fat zero.

Never mind a window, this club is going to need a whole bloody conservatory in the summer!

Also explains him being benched recently. Looks like hes kicked up a stink. I presume due to lack of game time.

Well I'm looking forward to the following.
Expansive football is a type of positional attack that takes the movement of players into account more than the system adopted (eg. 4-2-3-1).
Believe it when I see it.

And there lies the crux of the matter - MT said 'a more expansive style of football', ANYTHING would be more expansive than what we have seen at times in recent weeks so delivering this should not be a problem!

The teams that utilise 4-2-3-1 really well can easily interchange between that and 4-3-3 pretty easily, but I think it's clear we didn't sign the right kinds of players to really get this formation working in an expansive, attacking style.

The wingers we signed are just ordinary wingers, no real goal threat, pretty good at running, that's about it - Vernam and Crankshaw that is - and when we're not using them, we're using far more defensive, disciplined lads like Evans and Clarke (who are getting hung out to dry, because they're zero threat these days).

I can see why Rowe didn't fit any position in a 4-2-3-1, so who cares that he's gone. But if we're going to play a big lad up top (Novak or Cook) then it's really important that they aren't the only ones expected to score goals.

4-2-3-1 for me isn't about crosses and big lads getting on the end of things. It's about utilising attackers who have pace and real threat as wide men.

When Liverpool use the formation effectively, the striker is never the one getting the goals. It's lads like Salah or Mane who are in the '3' behind the '1' (who is much, much lower goalscorer like Firmino). Obviously when they're going, there are three, sometimes four players who playing a forward role.

We can't expect that from an inexpensive League Two team, obviously, but you'd think in the Summer it's really, really important that we replace Crankshaw, Vernam, Evans and Clarke with some lads who can actually (potentially) play that role - otherwise the formation is a bust.

I think it's gotta be young lads, to be honest, because I'm not really seeing anyone in the League Two top scorers list who fits the bill.

I get your point but Liverpool play a 4-3-3 rather than a 4-2-3-1. Mane and Salah aren’t expected to to do as much defensive work as say an Evans or Clarke, although Mane does get up and down the pitch. If we stick with this formation we need more of a Stead than a Cook in my opinion. Someone who has the intelligence and can hold the ball up and bring players into the attack. That would be my preference.

Liverpool do indeed play a front three, albeit 3 players of international attacking quality. If we line up with a 4-2-3-1 next season, which i expect, then the 3 and the 1 upfront have to be far potent as a goal threat. The two Cook/es both warrant a starting place if still here next season but not one other attacking player at the club can say they did enough to warant a place. Crankshaw and Vernam don't have enough goals in them to play as a front three although Crankshaw has shown some ability in a one on one. And we still lack the quality in central midfield to back up the impressive Cooke. The stats have shown a lack of clear cut chances in this squad even during the good run so its imperative players are brought in to change that.

If we release Billy Clarke, I'd like to see us go for Alan Judge who's been told he's not getting another contract at Ipswich.

All now down to Lee Bullock, who apparently has been lining up targets for next season since he arrived. No more round pegs syndrome I hope and whatever the system T&S employ, I hope they all con-fir to get the right players for the job.

I've just been watching the 2013/14 League 1 playoff final on Sky - Rotherham v Orient. Pringle is a decent players, so I had a quick google, and he's 32 playing for Morecambe. Then I had a quick look at Morecambe on the BBC site, and didn't realise they were fourth. Decent run of results and lots of goals. Had a quick look to see if Pringle is playing, and looks like he's a squad player. Someone who looks to be doing very well, is the Spanish fella I was praising when they played us - Mendes Gomes. 15 goals. Then another Google shows he's in demand, with Rangers touted to sign him up. 22 years old and came from non league. They ARE out there :) Maybe one day we'll get one that turns out to be half decent.

Morecombe also have NKP and Mellor. If only we could sign players of that calibre.

I think Ryan Sparks mentioned, at this week's Supporters Trust meeting, that we are looking to bring in at least one long throw specialist.
