Come along to the coronavirus thread in general chat and see if you can get Aleman to see why the most recent data is incomplete and makes it look more positive than it really is. Especially if you focus just on certain aspects. I have tried! :joy:

I like the idea of dividing it by average attendance as it is supposed to be to cover drop in gate income.

Rather than just looking at numbers though, cost should be included too.

Take the income from gates last year minus income this year. Then distribute depending on that.

Personally I think a board meeting between the EFL clubs, and the EFL should take place and they should draw up a business plan on what they would do with money received. If the PL or FA are to help we can’t have clubs spending it on new players, it should be solely for the purpose of saving clubs that will go out of business without action due to Covid.

I think that's jumping the gun at the moment. I don't yet see any evidence that any money will be forthcoming. It will take some veiled threat from the Govt to get the PL to part with anything before there are discussions on what to do with the box of Mars Bars.

I know it’s purely on this basis of should money be forthcoming, then it can’t be simply spent on a couple of high earners.

Certainly not! Nor should it be slipped into the owners' back pockets. Whoever provides the money will rightly attach conditions on how it is used. It's whether the EFL and the clubs can live with those conditions.

I agree, but I think it would help the EFLs case if they had some sort of business plan in place as a company might do if they were going for a loan.

I agree, its quite sad actually. The amount of money that goes out of football without benefitting the game is scandalous.

    My feelings entirely.
Rick Parry asking for £250M, how much of that is to cover the insane overspend on wages in the Championship?
Personally I'd be happy to see the PL fund L1 & L2 for the equivalent of the respective salary caps. That'd be less than 100M, but would have to be spent on specifics, with an emphasis on development, training, medical facilities etc, and not taken into the owners pockets. I'd even suggest some sort of quarterly audit by an independent commission to ensure it happens.
The Championship can look after themselves.

The suggestion from the Sports Minister, today, was to support loss of gate income, due to the virus, and not to support overspends.

I missed that. I can fully understand that approach since that reflects the direct loss which clubs have incurred because of playing behind closed doors.

If that gets the go ahead and it's strictly loss of gate or matchday income, I wonder how clubs such as City with higher than normal upfront ST sales will argue their case?

You have to remember though Arts covers a pretty wide spectrum which make up that figure. It’s not like all that money is going to say ballet. I'm not sure if you gave football the average each area of the Arts got that it would really make any kind of impact

EFL clubs already are looking after themselves. As I’ve said a few times just look at the debacle of iFollow. The way the revenue is split is the home side gets all the sales they make and also the first 500 sales the away team makes. That means if say Barrow come to valley parade you most likely get all the money from sales as they are a club that supposedly sells fewer than 500. When you go to the place as you sell way more than 500 you actually make more money than they do as the home side. If clubs in the EFL cared about the EFL they would be having a much fairer system that perhaps split it more evenly (personally I would go 50/30 with the other 20 going into a pool that’s evenly spread between the whole league) but that won’t happen because the likes of city benefit from the way it is now so they won’t vote against it.

Well, we'll see. Anyway, I think I'm going to have to give it a rest for while. I'm spending too much time going through the multitudinous variations of Covid numbers and posting bits on here. It's distracting from pressing needs at home like getting stuck into my tax return and a few other bits I've been ignoring. At the end of the day, it will do whatever it's going to. Hopefully, I'll come back in a few weeks and we'll have better news to chat about. A couple of wins and sitting in a play-off place would be nice for starters. Keep safe in the meanwhile.

PL are a refusing to give the EFL a bail out after working out that Championship owners are worth 32 billion (in total) and then other owners of league 1 & 2 are worth huge amount of money also.

So if a billionaire buys a mansion for 20 million dies that mean he/she should help a homeless person buy a house?

it’s wrong to suggest that the rich should fund the poor. That’s what Corbyn wanted and is one of the reasons I voted Tory.

Well your reason for voting was stupid because Boris is going to make the rich fund the poor but I agree that shouldn't be the case.

No he is going to make the poor pay to make the rich richer and the middle class pay for the poor.

What a daft and overly simplistic view, in my opinion.

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if cycles of wealth and poverty weren't so entrenched in society they were moreorless inescapable.

Interestingly, this is the actual philosophy behind satanism. I bet you didn't know that.
